She has known Matt Glaves for a bit and had a long conversation with him at a training meeting in another city. While on a break Matt told her about the contest and she decided to try submitting a new flavor! AND SHE WON! She was so surprised and excited, as we all were. So we are saying congratulations to her!
Picking a Winner!

New Blue Bell flavor has Alvin to thank

Blue Bell also has a Country Club. Blue Bell lovers can join the club and get money saving coupons for their favorite flavor and receive announcements about the latest flavor that has been created by that little creamery in Brenham. Country Club Members are also encouraged to submit their suggestions for ice cream flavors. “Suggested flavors are usually received by our branch offices, who in turn pass the suggestion on to the regional and corporate offices. Before making a decision on a new flavor, executives must consider the ingredients necessary for the flavor, the cost of the ingredients and the availability of those ingredients,” Glaves explained.
Alvin Assistant Fire Marshal, Kristine Schaffner has a taste for confections and she jumped at the chance to suggest a flavor. She thought an Italian Cream Cake flavor would create a taste bud sensation, so she submitted her idea.
After much consideration, the delizioso flavor was selected. Much like the actual cake, the ice cream is a creamy vanilla flavor with pieces of delicious Italian cream cake, shredded coconut, roasted pecans and a smooth cream cheese icing swirl. “We have created a flavor that not only has all the ingredients of an Italian cream cake in each bite, but there are actual cake pieces in the ice cream, too,” said Wayne Hugo, general sales manager for Blue Bell. “I am not sure it gets any better than that,” he added.
At a recent presentation, Glaves presented Schaffner with a Blue Bell Ice Cream coffee table book, two gallons of Italian Cream Cake and two gallons of her other favorite flavors. Upon receiving the ice cream, she quickly put it in the Fire Department freezer until time for home.
She was hoping it was still there when she went home. “I am afraid it might come up missing before quitting time,” she laughed.
