A Feng Shui Consultant's Thoughts.....by Feng Shui Long Island, New York City

Quite often I am asked just how long will it take for Feng Shui to start working...in other words, when will they see changes? I tell them it's impossible to tell. We were always taught the art of using Feng Shui in your space is a PROCESS and for some people, it can literally change the Energy of a space overnight and things will start to change.

For others it can take weeks or even months and they can become frustrated and lose confidence. That is the worst mistake they can make. A Feng Shui consultant cannot tell a client exactly WHEN the changes will occur, only that they will and they need to trust and believe in the process. If negative thoughts start to come in, it will certainly delay the process.

I have also noticed something else over the years that I don't have an exact answer to, only my own personal feelings about it: Often times after a client books a consultation and has finally made the decision to have one done; before I even arrive they will notice changes. They will get new clients, receive an unexpected check or find out they don't need expensive car work. It's only in the last year of so that I've noticed it and remember to include the question "Has anything changed since you made the appointment?" More often then not I will get the answer YES.

I had to wonder how this could be possible. My conclusion seems to be that they're COMMITTED to having a Feng Shui Consultation and making changes in their lives, many times after YEARS of putting it off. They've already redirected their energy and their Intentions are now to move forward. This in itself seems to create a shift.

There are many mysteries to Feng Shui and the way it works to me, even now after all these years and that's part of what makes this work so wonderful. Every day I see or learn something new; and know that no matter how much I learn, I will NEVER learn it all.

I was thinking Feng Shui was more about placement of the furniture, etc., which would cause you to feel different about the room, but I didn't realize there was a belief aspect with it. This is interesting

Carole- I know very little about Feng Shui, aside from what I learn from you and the sources you direct me to; but I'm starting to think Feng Shui is as much or more about people as it is about space and how it impacts people. Am I wrong?

Carole.... interesting. What's one saying, "mind over matter"? I have learned a lot from you and it has been interesting. I still remember the one that you did in regards to pictures and mirrors. just the basic things can make a difference. Thanks

Carole- After I did all the things our Feng Shui consultant told us to do, our entire real estate market fell apart! I know that was not Feng Shui and no amount of energy could change what was about to happen.

Carole: When we impose our arbitrary hurly burly timetable on nature's process is when things really start to seem to go awry. If we can but be patient I'm sure we'll see the results we seek in good measure. Thank you for your postings!

Carole: You really do have a gift of writing. I think that's what I find so interesting about Feng Shui are the mysteries you mentioned and the energy that it generates.

Hello Carole - We can relate to your client's questions somewhat in that we get asked often " How long will it take for my home to sell ? " and there are many factors that go into the answer - we cannot give them an exact timetable either!

Cathy, Thank you for your comment, that's what many people believe. Feng Shui is first the way you live and your lifestyle, it is much more then decorating.

Kris, I'm so glad. There are still so many misconceptions about Feng Shui. I can honestly say in another few years it will become an accepted way of life with this shift most people are experiencing.

Jeff & Grace, Exactly, of course you can't tell them how long it will take to sell their home---we can't tell clients how long it will take to see changes. But eventually it WILL sell and they WILL see changes.

Laurie, We sure are, sometimes I wonder what happened to a bit of patience--and belief. And sometimes things do literally turn around overnight!

Mary, For some it is and I LOVE to see that but more often then not it's a process and can take some time

Jo, That, to me, is incredible! They don't at first believe it's related to Feng Shui because I haven't been there yet but I truly believe it's the commitment to make changes that can start them almost immediately.

I've noticed this also with myself Carole, that often when I make a decision, change can be immeditiate befor I even have time to begin the process of change. I heard a saying some years ago, that says, "when you decide, everything follows."

Carole - I imagine often times there are possitive changes and your clients are not even aware until they really think about it. Do you find it is best to make gradual changes or a full overhaul all at once.

Deborah, I think that saying is very accurate. It took me a while to think about how it was happening, this never came up in school. But I do know many people put off a consultation for one reason or another for years and nothing changes....then on some occasions as soon as they book one, there is a shift.

Candy, Interesting question! When I had my consult done I was told I had to make all the changes within three days...there were some big things including having huge pieces of furniture moved and painting. It not only put a terrible stress on me but things didn't go well...I don't believe changing the energy that fast is the best way to do it. I ask my clients to make the changes, if possible, within two weeks.

Hi Carole I definitely believe that being open to allowing change to occur is key. I have experienced this personally.
