FIRST ENERGY STADIUM -- HOSTED INTERNATIONAL SOCCER GAME ON 05/29/2013

Cleveland, Ohio's First Energy Stadium started its Spring/Summer Season on May 29, 2013 when it hosted an International Soccer Game.

The U.S. National Soccer Team played the Belgium National Soccer Team.  This was termed a "friendly game" as it was a practice game, not yet in preparation for the International Soccer Tournament in the future.

This is only the 2nd time Cleveland has hosted an International National Soccer Game.  The last time was in 2006.

Attendance was good, 27,720.  This actually is great given Indians Baseball at Progressive Field, 2 major movies being filmed in downtown Cleveland and uncharacteristically high humidity and temperatures, over 80 degrees at night by Lake Erie.

As a soccer coach for my daughter from U4 to U14, soccer is still "in my blood" as it is in my 26 yr. old daughter's "blood."  My daughter text-ed me one day recently with  a message asking if I would like to attend The Game with her.  In a heartbeat.  She got great seats (no one in front of us).  And, I even wore my soccer shoes.

The game was wonderful and great to watch.  I have to admit that the Belgian Team was the better of the two.  The Belgians were faster.  That made the difference.  The final was U.S.A. 2 and Belgium 4.

The photos below were taken on my HTC EVO, as I didn't have a press pass for a camera.  But they were taken with gusto!

Hi Joe: You are quite right that events, such as this soccer game, are important for the local economy.

Hi Barbara: Thanks for your comment.  I love to watch sports too.  But, soccer is called football in every country other than the U.S.!

Joan: Thanks so much for your comment.  It was exciting to see soccer at the international level.

Pat and Steve, we are supposed to have a couple of games in stadiums near me.  Giant Stadium ad Gillette Stadium.  I would love to be able to go to one of the games.

I'm sure that was just such a wonderful event to attend, Pat. There was probably so much excitement in the stadium.

How exciting Pat. Once you get something in your blood it is mighty hard to ever get it out. I know you enjoyed it immensely.

George: You should go to at least one game.  The International Games are fast moving, which is not reflected on TV.  I was a soccer coach ( not a soccer mom) from U4 to U14 for our daughter.  I love the game.  (Steve was a baseball coach for our son through high school.)

Toni: Thank you for your comments.  It was a wonderful game.  The best part was sharing it with my 26 yr. old daughter.  She texted me to ask if I wanted to go to the game with her, as there were tickets available.  We had a "girls night out."

Debbie: Thank you for commenting.  My 26 yr. old daughter and I did really enjoy it!!
