Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary,  How Does Your Garden Grow?

Flower Ring

If you are past a certain age you might remember that little saying, 'Mary, Mary, quite contrary.  How does your garden grow?'  Well, today I am so excited to finally have a new flower garden circle where once a very tall tree grew.

Tree Two months ago we had the tree taken down and the stump ground out.  That was just the beginning of our work.

First, Dave & I carted away an endless amount of woodchips and sawdust.

Then we had topsoil delivered to build a mound.

Add a few (really a lot) of rocks around the circle to keep the soil from washing away during heavy rains.

Then came the fun part a visit local garden center.  I had to contain myself as I wanted to buy one of everything but I know these plants will spread out once they take root.

Even better, I included a few herbs in the garden since this is now the sunniest location on our property. Yes, we live in a little house in the woods, just like "Little Red Riding Hood.'

Go ahead and say it, "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary,  How Does Your Garden Grow?"

Quite well, thank you.

Debbie,  I hope your flowers and mine thrive & bloom to brighten the lives of all who view them.  We had a neighbor stop by just as we were finishing this afternoon to comment on the beauty they added.  I have looked at them at least a dozen times since we finished early afternoon.

Jane, I like the concept of de-staging the tree location.  Wow!  So much more attractive with colorful flowers balance with greenery.

60 trees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Wow!  I can't imagine cleaning up the mess from that many trees.  We had two trees taken this spring.  That was enough for now.  There are a few more that should come down as they are too close to the house.  Not good for the roof which had replaced last year.

It's so sad to have to take down a tree. After my birch tree fell on my roof one winter, we decided to take the second birch tree down as well, just in case it was ready to go. They don't live very long for trees, only about 40 years. But your garden looks very pretty in its place.

Elizabeth, like your birch trees, ours was weeping and kept dropping limbs on our roof so it was time to take it down. Now I am excited to have new flower garden. Have good weekend.

Mary, I have a little garden sliver between my house and the row house next door, and you are inspiring me to do something with it.

Looks really clean, and pretty, Mary!  I've been to the garden shop on a couple of trips the last few days.  I have yet to get it all in the ground.  I suspect Monday will be the day!

Thanks, Myrl. I always like a garden after the mulch is put down. Good luck getting your plants in the ground.

Will, thanks for the kudos, but we hired SkyWalker to take tree down & grind stump.  We did the clean-up and built the new flower garden.

Thanks, Bob.  Like you we love our trees but some are too close to the house.  This one was dying & dropping limbs on house.  Not good.  In fact a wind storm broke off limb that pierced the roof & ended up in the attic.  The tree had to go >>>

Silvia, yes, I will post updated photo as the flowers & herbs grow.  Funny how we remember things from childhood so many years later.

Mary, we lost a big tree out front a few years ago. Really changes the look doesn't it? Your new flower bed is lovely. I filled my deck containers with flowers and am totally loving them too.
