Kudos to Gayle - YET AGAIN!!!!

flower cartoonAny real estate professional who reads and has worked with more than one Client will immediately relate what Gayle has to say - just read the comments and my point is taken.

The reality is - well - at Atlanta Homes ODAT Realty Services, Inc. anyway - folks show up again and again asking for more assistance as the years pass on by.

*  Do you have a person who can lay carpet?
*
Do you have a copy of the documents from our Closing five years ago?
*  Who can remove the fallen tree that just missed our wonderful home?
*
Will you go talk to my family and explain about (some aspect of real estate) for us?

The gift of sharing Client joy is very special and is cherished at Atlanta Homes ODAT Realty. Life offers many challenges but being there for the joyful ones is really great.

Thanks Gayle!
Have a happy day -
Lynn

When we, as Realtors®, begin this relationship with our buyers or sellers, it can feel like a two-hour blockbuster movie that catapults you into another world, filled with unknowns, emotions, turmoil, and ups and downs that you and they are simply not prepared for.

These buyers put their trust in you to take them on this journey that can truly push them to the limits in their capacity to open themselves up in ways that they would NEVER do with anyone except their very best friends. They share things with you and put such ultimate trust in you about some of the deepest parts of themselves that it's no WONDER that some simply can't handle it and walk away. And I'm not just talking about the clients, I'm talking about Realtors®!!!

This is HARD, folks. Studying for the exams to become a real estate agent does not prepare you for the upheaval that some of your clients go through. It doesn't teach you to understand the nuances of human behavior and to treat people with kid gloves when it's needed or to play hardball because it's called for.

WOW. Think about this for a moment. It is like a tornado effect. It comes blasting through and you best hold on because you could come out of it completely safe and unscathed or be ruined for years to come, only to try to rebuild and make it better years down the line. This pertains to both clients and realtors.

Being a Realtor® is one of the biggest balancing acts there is. You have to be a therapist, marketing genius, analyst, paper-pusher, artist, Human Resource person, caregiver, comptroller, mediator, advocate, amateur inspector, juggler and the list goes on.

One of the things that seems to be like a dichotomy is that you swoop in, become intimately involved with people, and then in about 6-8 weeks (or more) you can just as suddenly disengage from the every-day communication with these clients that you've spent an intense amount of time and energy on and with. That's a lot to ask of anyone and we do it ALL OF THE TIME. It almost feels a bit like wearing the hat of an interventionist!

Some of us are lucky enough to have that short term relationship flourish over time, spending social times together, getting to know each other as more than just Realtor® and client, creating a friendship that can last for years upon years. It just doesn't always start OR end that way. It certainly can be an emotional roller coaster and life experiences and TIME are the only things that can give you the tools to adjust to what is asked of you.

This reminds me of this well known poem:

"Do not go gentle into that good night" Dylan Thomas  who expressed this in a poem about life relating to his father's impending death... one should not die without fighting for one's life.

Realtors, these are good words to heed as you honor and respect this intense symbiotic relationship during the changes that you help create in your clients' lives.

Lynn, Great re-blog.  Gayle nailed it.  I'd like to think that for most of my clients the "relationship does not end" when the transaction closes.
