Getting BVGDADC - Part 5: A = Positive Mental Attitude

I'm exploring a new thought process from Clay Carr's "The New Manager's Survival Manual" - BVGDADC.  I suppose it isn't really a "new" thought process but more of a further explanation or putting into action a hodge-podge of thought processes. I'm ready to step up my game and move my business to the next level. Exploring these ideas and coming up with an action plan is crucial to accomplishing this goal.

Part 5: A = Positive Mental Attitude

“What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity? Our attitude toward it. Every opportunity has a difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity.” J. Sidlow Baxter

An obstacle is also called a barrier or a stumbling block, but it is only those things if you look at it in a negative light. Why? Simply because a barrier is something that bars your way ahead. A stumbling block prevents you from forward momentum, causing you to slow down or lose course. All negative connotations.

So how do you look at an obstacle in a positive light? Simple! Instead of looking at the situation as though it were a barrier or stumbling block, perhaps look at it as a mountain to climb. Once you get over the hump - it's all downhill after that! Or, once you make the effort to climb the mountain, you can sit back and reap the benefits of all your hard work.

The attitude that we take toward a situation determines everything. We do, of course, have a choice. We can choose the low road and be negative about any obstacle we encounter or we can choose to take the high road and look at it as an opportunity to make a major advance.

Homework!

How is your mental attitude? Do you take each situation as a roadblock or is it an opportunity? Take stock of your mental attitude and decide if you need an adjustment. It will be worth the effort!

Obstacles are everywhere and effect everyone. I just try to figure out a logical way to cut them down to size to get to a solution.
