Are you getting more than one estimate?

A client decided to get rid of an old tree.  It was dying and he didn't want it to be an issue for a buyer.

As I talked with him I asked what the guy was charging to take it down.  (No Cleanup)

$1250!

I almost fell over.  It was not by the house and it was leaning away from every building.   I gave him the number for my go to guy for tree removal.  Totally cleaned up...$275!

My client was thrilled.  I thought everyone would be about the same price.

No matter the job, get more than one bid and ask to see their insurance if you feel that is important for the job.

Hello William,

Wow, talk about padding a bill - that's outrageous!

Yes William, I ALWAYS encourage my people to get more than one estimate. There are many honest contractors out there, but there are many that will try to make up on one customer what they lost on the last.

I had four trees removed cleaned up and hauled away plus had the stumps ground out for a listless than the 1250. Your client is lucky you came along.

Great advice. More than one bid gives you some range and you can check the quality of what is offered. I checked on installing garage doors one time $400 one bid $2,000 the next bid. It floored me.

Yes William, it does make a huge difference when multiple offers are on the table, but I often find that the least expensive is not the best option.

Bill, prices do vary a lot!  But I will agree with Bob, the lowest may not be the best.
