Upper Marlboro MD Real Estate: Only The Strong Survive!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Preferred Properties

In a pool of many Realtors, only the strong will survive.  Real estate agents are always pushed to the edge with trying to get new clients and make deals happen.  From being a Buyer's Agent to a Listing Agent, the juggling of roles can be very demanding.  At the end of the day, motivation plays a vital role in how well a real estate agent will perform and how long the real estate agent will remain in the business.

As an experienced Realtor, I'm always excited about the possibility of new business.  Personally, I'm motivated by the mere pleasure of helping others.  When new business opportunities come up, no Realtor can sit back and do nothing.  As the saying goes, "The early bird gets the worm."  There has to be be a high level of initiative to capture new buyers, sellers, and even renters.  Realtors can't afford to take the slow approach to productivity.  This doesn't mean that fast equals success, but it means that there's always another Realtor lurking around the corner and will take your opportunity if you don't take advantage of it.

Yes, Realtor's have to be aggressive.  This means marketing their business to attract new clients.  This also means taking the opportunity to engage people effectively when answering questions or responding to inquiries.  What the Realtor does today will surely impact him or her tomorrow.  If an individual wants to know something about buying a home, it's the Realtor's job to engage the individual because the person has the potential to be a client in the future.  Establishing a connection with the potential buyer now, helps the Realtor get his or her foot in the door.  It doesn't guarantee the business, but it at least gives a chance.

I'm certain Realtors can appear very hungry at times, but don't confuse predatory instincts with mere drive to be successful.  While there may be less Realtors in the business today, there's still a fierce competition to gain business and loyal clientele.  It's my opinion that a Realtor can't truly survive or be the best he or she can be without being highly motivated and aggressive about getting results.  In this profession, only the strong will survive.  It's about having ample initiative.  It's about the ability to persevere through disappointments and the ability to soar during success.  A Realtor only wants to help, not scare potential buyers, sellers, or renters away.  Therefore, it is in the real estate agent's DNA to jump on an opporunity when it exists.

It's definitely a delicate balance to be aggressive, but not "thirsty". Everything  described in this blog points to investment in the real estate business, communication and taking massive action.

Being a real estate agent is not as easy as some people think.  I always say real estate is a "hustle".  We are constantly looking for clients and like you said, we can't afford to sleep on any lead as they will go on to the next agent.

I agree with you. Only the strong can survive and especially in the last several years market place.  I think those of us still standing have to have been strong to have surviced.

Thanks  for all of your great comments.  As Candy stated, our business is a hustle and we have to hustle along and make things happen.   People don't realize the work that this requires.  Being aggressive can have a negative connootation and potential clients can back off if you seem to be too eager or ambitious.  They believe that your just out to get something from them or you're moving too fast.  But, the payoff can still be negative if you don't act eager or ambitious.  It's our job to be quick about jumping on opportunities and being motivated about helping clients.  We can't change the perceptions of others when we're just doing our job.  Ambition is a driving force of anyone's survival.  We are not predators, we are just looking for business, and if we have a chance to get business, we are going to take it.

Hi Timothy, Congratulations on the feature.  I agree the strong survive and the others starve.  People can be alienated by aggressive behavior, however, sometimes an agent just gets carried away!

Real estate is a sport, passion, some same addiction, disease. Whatever it takes to list, market, sell (repeat). It is a numbers game and keeps getting reinvented. Or you become a dinosaur. Extinct.

Very well said.  If only the public knew how tough it really can be they would be much more appreciative of our services.  If you don't stay on top of things and go after the potential leads you surely won't do well at all.  Good post.
