Great schools and affordability are the most common reasons to move the Chicago Northwest Suburbs.

But now you ask me is there anywhere exciting to go for the day  with your family in the Winter?  Anything but  the usual movie, or bowling?

What about Skiing?  Whether you have 3 year olds or 15 year olds, I recommend Wilmot Ski Resort in Wisconsin, right across the Illinois border.  Wilmot Mountain is only a short 45 minute  from the Chicago Northwest Suburbs. In order to get there, you would take Gilmer Road to Route 12, and then go North to Wilmot Road.  From there its about 10 minutes further on the same road.

The mountain´s snowmaking capacity gives them the resort snow from early November to the middle of March.  Wilmot has a 230-foot vertical drop with skiing/riding on 120 acres. There's a long run of 2,500 feet to keep you rolling. Although Wilmot is small by certain advanced  skier´s  standards, my family  a bunch of novices had a wonderful time this past Saturday.

When we arrived at Wilmot on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. we were pleasantly surprised at how smooth the lines to purchase tickets and equipment went.  After gearing up for the cold, our entire family enjoyed many runs together. I thought the scenery was unbelievable, especially for the Midwest!  After a delicious lunch, my youngest son took a private lesson to improve his skills and instructor Dave was suburb.  After the lesson, we finished the day with some more family runs.  We all left the resort very tired but satisfied from the day´s activities.

For the advanced skiers and snowboarders, you can check out their terrain park with rails and big jumps. If you want to try to snowboarding this year, they  have plenty of snowboards for rent. After talking to some beginner snowboarders who were mostly on the ground, it appears that snowboarding is harder to learn, but actually more fun than skiing if you ever get the hang of it.    Wilmot´s ski and snowboarding school can also get you started with a lesson or two.  Wilmot boasts a world renowned Ski School for the best in Ski Lessons, and an award winning National Ski Patrol.  If you would like more information about this great resort, click on www.wilmot.http://www.wilmotmountain.com/info/about.htm

I´m sure we will go back again soon!

My 12 year old made the slide show from our pictures we took on Saterday! I´m the shortie , the only woman, and the mom of the three handsome boys!

Judy.... Looks like a fun day!   The little ski area near us fell onto rough times a few years ago with the lack of snow and went into foreclosure.... Last I knew there was talk of building condo's on the site but I also recall hearing another ski company might purchase the site and develop it into a year round recreation center.

Kelly, It was really invigorating-  I didn't even check my messages for 2 hours until a resident of Royal Melbourne called me to tell me that the sign company put my sign on their home, instead my new listing and they aren't moving. uh oh!

Judy, Judy, Judy,

Yup, Carry Grant had a way with word, didn't he? Especially with pretty woman.

Good job on your son changing the music to appease the older folks like me. Of course some of the complaints from Rainers can be chilled out. He's a kid for crying out loud!

Now most of us older geezers will be damn complaining about body aches, and this and that, and then we'll wish they were young again.

Cheers, KIM.

Kim,  Yes- I forgot to mention that your new friend from Buffalo Grove  had a lot of body aches after the day of skiing, the day after and the day after! - even with all my pilates.  Cheers to you!

Thanks for the kind words... but since the twin who made it is Danny, I have to give credit where credit is due.
