Get Ready For Another Postage Increase - Forever Stamps Might Be A Good Answer

By
Real Estate Agent with Village Real Estate Services, Inc.

The U.S. Postal Service has announced today that beginning May 12th it will cost 1 penny more to mail a one ounce letter First Class.  The cost will be 42 cents.  The price of the Post Office's Forever stamp will increase to 42 cents.  There have been over 5 billion Forever Stamps sold since they became available last April.  So, here's your chance to save a penny and buy some of the Forever Stamps at their current rate of 41 cents.  The post office is planning to have an additional 5 billion of the 41 cent Forever Stamps available to meet the anticipated sales prior to the May 12 price change.

Hey, this could be your opportunity to do something nice for a friend on May Day.  How about buying some booklets of 1 cent stamps to send to friends and family members (especially your senior friends who might not be able to get to the post office easily) to help them use up their 41 cent stamps and save them a trip to the Post Office?

Again- I should have bought forever stamps the first time around - I am still using 2 cents stamps and my 39 cent ones.

Michelle - Glad to pass along the info.

Kelly - Forever does mean forever.  If you have forever stamps you won't have to add extra postage.  Glad you like the buttons.

Kathleen - Too funny - me too!

You know, I scolded my wife for going out and buying a bunch of Forever stamps after the last increase.  Now it looks like it was a good investment.  Gotta learn not to question my wife!!  :-)

Andy - Wow!  I was just hoping to give a little information.  Looks like I did a bit of marriage counseling in the process.  Keep appreciating that smart lady!

Jim - Ir will be interesting to see how we are transporting "mail" in the next 20 years.  I had to search for my checkbook today-I hardly ever write checks because it's so much easier to pay everything online.

We have been very happy with the US Postal Service here in Owatonna, MN.  We have gone to bulk mail for almost all of our monthly mailings (almost 1200 pieces per month) saves us a bunch of money and the pieces are still delivered within a say or two of first class.  Loving direct mail.

Hi Marlene,  I'm glad they're waiting until after Mother's Day so all those cards missing the 1 cent stamp won't be in limbo!  Last increase I gave neighbors some 2 cent stamps with my newsletter...just makes life a little easier as you note.  Cheers, Harley

Hi Harley,

I hadn't thought about Motber's Day.  What a terrible thing it would have been if Mom's got their cards late or worse yet not at all.

I think the forever stamps are more useful for someone who doesn't use a lot of stamps.  For most of us in real estate, we'll go through our supply of stamps by the time prices go up - or maybe buy one sheet of forever stamps just to get us through the price change.

Hi Marlene,   I did buy some 'forever stamps' before the increase - but your post reminded me to buy some rolls now (before the next increase, lol).  Thanks!   They are great gifts when combined with some pretty stationery and a nice pen - for the letterwriters in the family :)

Happy Thanksgiving.
