First, let me say that in no way can I take credit for this wonderful idea. A group of Realtors at Keller Williams and ReMax thought it up and organized the event. Kevin and I just had the smarts to jump in and participate.
The concept is a Friday evening Open House. All the participating homes had a spotlight on the yard sign – hence the event name. The collective “we” took out a one page ad in the local paper listing all the homes on tour. Kevin and I paid extra to place a smaller 5" x 5.5" photo ad featuring our listings on the back page.
This event took place last week in three towns; Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and Winfield. There were over 160 homes on tour - an incredible number. And a great achievement to get 8+ independent real estate companies to work together (and get along to boot).
The Chicago area isn’t really known for its balmy January nights, so I think the cold kept some people away. But the concept was fabulous. My seller’s loved the idea, loved that it was different, loved the extra attention and loved that they got in an open house even over a Bears playoff weekend.
It was a win-win event all the way around. I can’t wait to do it again during the spring when the weather might cooperate better.
