Blogging can be an enjoyable thing to do when you have time, but should you schedule time and do it consistantly? I once saw a sample time planner that gave a list of things to do in a slowing market, and one of the tasks on there was to blog. What possible benefit could it have to write things? Well, let me give you my thoughts.

When you write, it benefits the reader...but wait, there's more! As a published auther of multiple books and articles, I can tell you that writing benefits the writer just as much (if not more) than it does the reader. Yes, you learn when you write. It makes you think, helps you organize your thoughts and you actually learn from the task.

What should you write about? ANYTHING! While this site is for Real Estate professionals, and should focus on Real Estate things, it's okay to write humor, poetry, brain teasers, rants and raves, or anything you like. The only consideration is, will it make sense to someone else? If so, write away right away! At the very least, it helps sharpen your brain. I've written several things that I originally thought were just to get something off my chest, only to find that it touched someone else in a way I never would have imagined.

Blog away. But like anything else, don't focus soley on it (of course). Make it a part of your day...everyday. Read others blog entries and respond to them as well. Be a part of the process in every way, and by all means, let your clients know that you are commited to this activity. It lets them know that you enjoy your job, and have something to offer others in the industry.

I think we've only seen the tip of the ice berg when it comes to blogging.  It unites us in a way no other form of media can.

I'm with you - write, express, question and ponder.  It's how we humans learn, and learn from eath other.

I am sure that you are right. I spend time thinking about the topics that I post, and that makes it easier to talk with clients regarding issues and objections.

Hi Stephanie and Keith:  I have found that I too learn quite a bit when I write.  Writing something out gives you two more senses to use when solving a problem or taking in information.  Both your tactile sense and your visual sense are pathways to the brain, and when hoping to squeeze something out of that brain... the more ways you can access it... the better.

Stephanie and Keith:  I took the liberty of looking at your blog posts, and I noticed something, or actually noticed the lack of something.  I thought I would point it out to you.

None of your last six posts was actually "posted" to any groups.  This means it is just sent out onto the blog roll... what you see when you click on the word "blogs" at the top of this page.  It will stay on the blog roll for I would guess maybe eight hours, and then disappear.  My suggestion is that you join some groups that appeal to you.  If you wish, you can click on my name, and then look along the left side of the page, and see that I have a long list of groups that I have "joined"... and that I can post to if I wish.

These groups would be chosen by you, and then, when you write a post, you can choose to have it "highlighted" on the blog roll of that particular group.  This gives you much more exposure, and greatly enhances the Active Rain members who will see it, and then perhaps choose to read it.

If I can help you further in any way, please do not hesitate to ask.

I am practicing what you told me to do, almost every day I read, every few days I write.  Being a nation speaker I get so much material here I am just a over stuff person of knowledge

The best thing about reading the blogs and comments is the information you get in passing. Thanks Stepanie and Keith for writing something I wanted to comment on. But talk about the cherry on the top: Thank you very much Karen for the groups heads up. After a month I am still learning so much!

Tara:  You are very welcome.  And...

Keith:  Thank you for your "thank you" email.  You are very welcome.  Since you emailed me privately to thank me, I am wondering if you are thinking that this comment section that appears under each post is only for your readers comments?

This space is for your readers to comment, and then for you and/or Stephanie to comment back to their comment if you care to.  That way... two things happen.  One... you show each person who commented on your post that you are glad they did, and are politely acknowledging their comment, and two... in commenting on their comment, you encourage an ongoing dialogue as the comments continue to form down the page.  It is a good thing.  And also, the more you comment in answering their comments... the more your readers get to know you.  And the more that happens, the more likely they will return to read your next post.  Take care... keep up the great work.

Karen,

I responded in a private email just because I thought you would see that sooner than you would see a comment in my blog. I do agree with you about the ongoing dialog though. Thanks for your input.
