Costco Is Coming To Cedar Park, TX
Times are a changing for the Cedar Park area. When I moved here 12 years ago…I used to say there wasn’t a place in town to even buy a pair of underwear. We had 2 grocery stores, and that was about it. Well, I have seen this town grow by leaps and bounds. And now we have another wonderful addition coming to town.
Costco is starting to clear ground for a store in Cedar Park later this year, it is the third in the region and a sign of the overall health of the Central Texas economy, experts say. The 145,000-square-foot store will be part of a shopping center with as much as 300,000 square feet of retail.
Construction should start on the actual Costco building this summer so that the store would open in the fall. It will employ 300 to 450 full-time and part-time workers. The new store will represent a $45 million to $50 million investment for Costco.
The Cedar Park trade area is expected to have about 250,000 people by the time the store opens. It takes about two to three years for a store to build up to its targeted membership base of about 50,000 households and businesses. Costco already has about 20,000 members in that trade area.
