When I first started using mybloglog I thought it was a cool little widget to put on your blog to see which members are reading your blog. You know, something entertaining to put on the side of your blog.

But then Jaine Coffey emailed me to tell me that someone did a search for Mark Bellissimo and she told me about how I should write posts about Mark Bellissimo and boy was she right! I get so many searches for him. She told me she found out through mybloglog!

So I started using it and love it. It only costs $25 to upgrade from free in order to get all the data you would love to get the scoop on from your searches.

I wrote 2 mybloglog tutorials about how to use the great information you can glean from the expanded version:

Do you Know Who is Reading Your Active Rain Blog?

More About Who is Reading Your Active Rain Blog.

The comments and emails start pouring in that some newbies and some members who have been around a while could not  get the widget on their Active Rain Blogs. So here is the tutorial, it should have been first, but instead it is the last of this series on mybloglog, backwards, but here nonetheless!

First go to Mybloglog and set up an account. It is now interfaced with Yahoo, so you will have to set up a Free Yahoo account and ID if you do not already have one.

Then fill out your profile, add your photo and get all that web 2.0 stuff out of the way. Click on, GET WIDGET.

blogging for business mybloglog

Choose the colors you want to use for your widget and customize your widget to your liking.

Then go to, GET CODE.  See Above Illustration.

You are going to copy the code onto your clipboard. Now go to your Active Rain Home Page.

Click on MY SETTINGS.  I wish I had a screen shot like this because I could not find the blog settings when I was a newbie!

active rain tutorial mybloglog

Go to the middle of your home page to the box that says: BLOG DESCRIPTION. Scroll down to the bottom of the text that is on your blog description and paste the html code that you copied to your clipboard from Mybloglog. And then click UPDATE.

That is it! Now refresh the page, go to your blog and check to see if your Mybloglog widget is there. Please remember that the only faces that will show up as readers on your widget are other members of Mybloglog. I got a call from an agent the other day who thought her widget was not working because no one appeared on her widget yet she had blog views. One has nothing to do with the other. You can invite people to become free members of Mybloglog too.

I hope that was easy enough to understand and now that you have your widget on your blog you can read my advanced tutorials above about how to use Mybloglog for blogging for business and to improve your SEO.

If you found this tutorial useful consider subscribing to my blog so you will know whenever I post a tutorial that will help you in your blogging and websites.

Your site is a tad wide and requires viewer to adjust slide rail...half of you are there when first loaded..that is not good..both of you need to be there and no adjustment needed! Not due to wide screen on this end! Good post!

Howdy Nestor and Katerina

I would like thank you very much for taking the time to post how to put the My BlogLog on our Active Rain Blog.

I joined AR June of last year. So i am not really a Newbie any more.

I did just join My BlogLog, and was needing some help with this.

Have a good one

Dale

This info is timely and very helpful as I have just signed up with mybloglog. One question, how do you get the cool examples of actual web pages with ripped looking paper and all the arrows, circles etc? That is such a great visual and yet I have absolutely no idea how you did it.

Katerina, this was a great post. I've already got the bloglog, but enjoyed the review. AND, you have HOW many featured? That's amazing, AND you receive more comments than you give out. That's probably because you're so busy writing and responding to all of us enjoying your tutorials. Anyway, I'll check if I have the paid version. I can see all of the visitors and what they are seeing, etc., so I may have paid for it. Keep the good stuff coming. ;-)

Teri- Thank so much. I did not post this to show those numbers. I did not think even notice until your comment what the heck you were talking about! I just wanted to get the tutorial out there for new people and those that were stuck in getting their widget on their blogs. I think you get to see a bit for free but much more for the $25. Check it out, you can go pretty deep with the research. Thanks so much for commenting! Yes, sometimes it takes hours and hours to return all the wonderful comments I receive. Katerina

Katerina- because of your previous post MyBlog Log, and because I can never get "today's" stats, I had decided to upgrade to the paid version.  Thank you.

Katerina~ Thank you so much for putting this together in a visual tutorial. One of my sweet friends from the rain called to have me walk her through it and it's so much easier to see the visual aspect of it on screen. We did make it through and she up and running successfully, but I am so truly glad you have this for everybody seeking to add a mybloglog. Big hugs to you!

No Firefox browser..sometimes a comment with image that is big or not wrapped right can cause a bulge to make the margin you have stretch for views..tried different browser settings and the lady half shows in screenshot, but not the right hand portion.  I can slide to get that 4% missing information but you don't want view to be making any adjustments...just to see the whole show.  The widget is not sized wrong to cause a border bulge either...do our own html and website and tried you on different browser will same result. Hmmm...

Found the problem  (handing pipe wrench to Nestor) It's the V flyer being too wide for the margin that is causing the alignment bluge and stretch of your margin. You need to have a narrower v flyer...could use the 215 pixel width for the active rain recommended slot dimension. Get that v flyer on weight watchers and a space above the active rain widget and you are going to scream and load properly and fast !

Andrew- Thanks! I will redo our Vflyer widget this weekend! Thanks a bunch for the heads up. And to think I have a Vflyer tutorial in draft ready to publish! :) BTW; I use Firefox and love it. Active Rain was built on a Fire Fox platform so it works well with AR. Katerina

Katerina...

As much as I love a Good Widget...I'm careful with them...

Some of those little bugger's really slow down my Internet.

But then again...One of the Big Dogs told me that's because IE7 is Satan is disguise :)

TLW...ROAR!

I like how you use it, but I haven't wanted to know what other agents are on my blog. I've been more interested in the stats that show where my visitors are coming from and what they are searching for when they find me, so I can better write my blogs to capture that audience. If I see 10-15 visitors looking at one particular local blog that I wrote 3 weeks ago and don't get a call or e-mail, then I know I need to change it up to increase my calls on the area.

Todd- That is what the other 2 posts in this series were about, using mybloglog for stats. I love the ease of it. It gives me all the info that I need to know to write more about, like right now it is short sales. They are just eating them up! Thanks for your comment. How is Beaverton these days? I have not been there in 12 years.

Katerina,

Thanks for the into to MyBlogLog. The free widget is neat on the side bar, but I was wondering about being more active in the community. It is just another thing to learn, it with the other social networking outlets.

I have found that Google Analytics is a bit overwhelming for some one just learning how to read the information and who does not have hours to study and to analyze the data.

Maybe MyBlogLog will simplify things a little. Does it show just click throughs or data on all views like AR statistics?

Does it give info on clicks from people that are not in the BlogLog community? And would it help to add the widget to my website as well?

The two links to your other posts were helpful to better understand how you are using this.

Thanks,

Richard
