Too Much of A Good Thing Can be a Little BEE-zar

While taking photos around the Newport Bay in Rhode Island and visiting one of the coastal hotels along the water, I was seeing things in the lens that made focusing to get a clear shot of a racing sail boat, nearly impossible. That had to be a lot of dust on the lens. It didn't occur to me until I felt things bumping into me that I had company.

Dirt on My Lens?

A swarm of bees which I was standing in the way of were silent attackers as I didn't even hear a buzz, just the fact that I was seeing spots in the lens.

Swarm of Bees

Thankfully I was able to step back and not get stung but it was a little Bee-zar to encounter so many bees, which in a very low number, I actually enjoy watching and taking photos of.

That's a lot of Bees, William. You are lucky you weren't attached like a woman here in Florida. Maybe these were "honey" bees and full of love :)

William,

You can never have to much water outside the boat!

On the other hand even one bee is often to much!

William, I'm not afraid of many animals or insects but I've been stung by bees and the result wasn't good. A swarm like that could do some very real damage to any human in their way.

William,

It is bizarre when you are trying to photograph, however, from an environmental perspective, it is good news as we CA and the rest of the plantet have been noticing bee shortages which are important to agriculture of all types.  Bee hives are being sold to encourage bee keeping.  I have added lavender to our patch and noticed the bees coming back, and as a result of that both lemon trees are doing better.  Another friend /who has several beehives has noticed the same thing, and their neighbor who was thinking of cutting down his avocado trees as a result of little production has noticed an increase in blossoms and better yield...our bees are so important to our lives.  Sorry to get on an evironmental kick.  When we were staying at our cousins' home in the Loire Valley, the bush by the door to the guesthouse was swarming with bees...magnificent as they have several cherry trees that are producing like crazy, and several farms surrounding them.  A

Good morning William,

You really are a diehard photographer! Standing in the middle of that many bees would have sent me back to the car ASAP! Love the photograph and your explanation of what those dots are! Have fun on your travels!!

Some of the trees in Kentlands will have thousands of bees enjoying the blossoms. Thanks, William, for sharing your photographs.

Hi William, I'd have to go into immediate Zen mode and hope the bees would bee leaving me alone.  I have a healthy phobia about things that sting and make me cry!

Hi Margaret, I don't think so Hi Mona, I really understand that. What was fortunate for me is that I didn't see them and by the time I did, I was able to just move back and back. I think the swarm had a destination in mind, :-) Hi Roy, I didn't count these but I do think they must have been in the thousands. But they were swarming and not enjoying blossoms, at least I didn't see any, :-) Hi Dorie, I was glad this came out well enough to show. I am dedicated to getting but the shot and the bees came at the same time and the bees were not initially my objective.

William - BEE-Zar for sure! However, what I like the best about this post is the proof that when it comes to a task, or even photo shooting, you stay FOCUSED! And there's nothing BEE-Zar about that!

Those are awesome photographs and I love the fact that you didn't even notice until you realized there was something on your lens. Now that's a true and dedicated man!

WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL!!!
