Always handle electrical repairs as if the power were on!

Electrical repair in Sacramento

It is a good idea to always shut off the power to an outlet or switch before doing any work within the wall. Too often we have found previous repairs that were not done in a safe manner. This electrical box suddenly gained a charge once we opened it up. The wires were not secured correctly; pulling the outlet out engaged the live circuit. Handling this incorrectly would have been shocking.

Hi Tom,

I have repaired this stuff with the power off and the power on.

The best is like you say. Shut off the power!
Have a great evening in Sacramento.

Best, Clint McKie

Tom, The Navy gave me a healthy respect/fear of electricity.  I personally won't touch a circuit without making sure I've killed the power at the breaker.  Bill

I agree that the shock is not really worth it if you are not careful enough to turn the electricity off!

Oh gosh, dangerous indeed.  We are licensed contractors, not licensed electricians, so we stay away from that stuff.

That's what the tongue is for, the best electrical tester ever.

Debbie - Good point. A trade license is specific to that trade.

Jay - Keep your tongue away from the power.

Switch, receptacle, two circuits, and a dishwasher pigtail into the mix; great fun!

Good morning Tom. Very true and very funny. It would have been careful too, but a contractor I knew for 30 years once told me, don't _uck with electricity. I never did.

Tom, that's pretty scary looking. We don't do electricity at our house. We call a professional.

Tom, I have been a bad boy before and done this stuff live. My wife would yell at me. But as I got older I am more inclined to power it off and also check with my tick tester just to make sure.

Hi Tom - The safest way I know of to handle electrical stuff is to let a qualified electrician do it. There's a lot of DIY's I'll attempt, but when it's electricity, I draw the line at changing light bulbs.

Sometimes that is the best answer Connie. Leave the dangerous stuff to the professionals.

When we get older and wiser Donald, we tend to take less chances.

Electricity can be dangerous even for those that do it all the time Dick. Not something you want to goof around with.

I dont mind working on some electical issues while the breaker is on, however it does make it a lot more comfortable when you dont have to worry about touching something that you shouldnt.
