GASP- does her mother know...?

Does Her Mother Know? When I tell people that I blog, I occasionally get some strange looks. I even hear some people talking about me behind my back.

"Did you know she BLOGS?"
GASP. She "WHAT?'
"Does her mother know she does that??"

What are they thinking I am doing?

Just because I am a blogger doesn't mean I regularly post naked pictures of myself kissing cute boys. Sounds fun and all, but it probably wouldn't make my husband very happy.

So if blogging is not myspace, what is a blog?

Wikipedia defines a blog as, "a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog." As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs according to Wikipedia.

Do you like surfing the web? If so, you should love reading blogs.

Blogs are websites - only better. Good blogs are updated constantly- some multiple times a day. They are constantly evolving and changing. With 112 million blogs, you can find a blog on almost any topic you could imagine. Cooking, knitting, auto repair, politics, religion, Marin County Neighborhoods, Mortgages, and much more. There are conservative blogs, liberal blogs, Even Dilbert has a blog.

A blog counter culture, A blog an angry, critical cynic

There are a lot of popular blogs who offer alternative voices to traditional news media. Blogs are holding people accountable in a way that has never been done in society. I think this is a really great thing. Some blogs are angry, some blogs are counter culture, many are not (thankfully!). Find what fits your needs and read a blog.

Great photo additions...

Many people don't know what a blogger does, others think it is a waste of time. I think in the near future it will be the norm for most people who have anything to say about anything.

Great post, I loved it! I still get funny looks when I say something about blogging... I'm a bus driver part time and when I mention it to other bus drivers you would think I was doing drugs. The teen agers even look at me funny. I guess their wondering why an "old" ladt would have a place similar to their myspace. LOL

Ginger, unfortunately we do sometimes get angry, cynical critics in here - but that shouldn't be the point of a good blog.

Ginger great blog, very cute and it's funny how many old school people are still out there. I have been called a few times because people found my blogs online and wanted me to list their home.

Ginger - My parents know as well, but they aren't subscribed. And how! I think a lot of individuals still haven't caught on or totally comprehend the Blogging Phenom....

"TIBURON" caught my eye & I stopped to read your entry (& now subscribed). I used to spend a lot of time in that area, and was married once (had to leave the guy in Africa) at Old St Hilary's historical church. What a beautiful town. I had a dear friend there, Beth Nash, who is no longer here, that I visited often. (She lived off of Taylor Road). She was an amazing woman and taught me so much about all the indegenous flaura of the area. She loved Tiburon. What gorgeous real estate to be able to sell in such a beautiful part of the country!

I love the picture of you and your husband making out. Isn't that what happens when you blog or am I just misunderstanding. I, too, get a lot of people giving me wierd looks when I tell them I blog. ONly those who are in the "in" know the burden as well as the fun to blogging.

My twist on this post is that my own 20 something kids think it is hysterical that I blog. No, seriously, they claim blogging as part of their generation that I have stolen.

Like they haven't stolen so much from MY generation? LOL!

Ginger, When I mention blogging to people I find that many of them have never heard of it or don't know what it is---still. "You do WHAT?" is the common reaction :)

Ginger. That is a cute post. It is only a matter of time till people understand a blog. Then there will be something else new.

Hi Ginger, it's funny, but I have heard from people that they wouldn't be able to blog, didn't understand what it was, or that they would have a reason for it. They were all people in different industries, and think it's just a fad that will soon fade away. Sure, some individual blogs will fade, but not blogging.

Got a chuckle out of this. It made me think do your children know. When I told my son there was a suprised look.

Ginger- Blogging is liberating. It offers an opportunity for an unknown to become known, for opinions to be spread virally and the freedom of expression and free speech offered to more people than ever before. I love blogging! :)

Ginger... your blogs rating just went down! It is no longer G rated! Seriously, you have a good point, but at least you are in a blogging area. I am in Alabama, we have only had indoor plumbing for a few years, much less the internet, and blogging? You know I am still somewhat new, in my opinion. I continue to learn a lot from you and others on here. Maybe some posts like this will give a little more insight into what we spend so much time doing!

Ginger, oh my goodness! You're one of those bloggers. Interestingly enough, just yesterday, I opened up my e-mail only to get a message from Facebook indicating that my Dad had added me as a friend. It was a bit surreal getting an e-mail requesting that "I am in fact friends with" him.

LOL cute post. ... the words, blog, myspace, facebook etc are still foreign to some and yet others are with "it". Not sure if I want my folks subscribing yet... but they are aware that I "blog". And for sure they haven't' a clue what that means.

In my earlier blogging classes, I had a participant tell me that when she had told her neighbor she was going to a blogging class, the neighbor asked "so they have classes for that now, is it that much of a problem?".... in most people's minds that is the way it is. However, things are changing.

Cute.....does your mother approve? I liked your answer :) It's normal that when people don't know about something they use their imagination to conger an image of what you are talking about, in this case a "blog". Human Nature isn't always nice :)

JACKIE- I couldn't agree more. Those who don't get will definitely not be "in the know."

BONNIE- I love it that there are some really great "older bloggers". Blogging does not discriminate based on age (or anything else for that matter!)

SCOTT- It is their loss. The power will be in the hands of those who adopt it and use it!

BRIAN- There will always be angry, cynical critics. If we look behind them we will see a goldmine of powerful bloggers with something meaningful to say.

HEATHER- That is exactly the success story we all want to here. If people want to gasp and sigh, let them. We will happily take the leads and keep them.

SARDI- Many people just don't get it. I think it does take time to get it (some here don't even "get it".

BONNER- My children are young. They know I blog, but they just think it is normal. If I had teens, they would probably be embarassed!

KATERINA- DITTO! It does give the individual a chance to compete with the big dogs--- and I LOVE that!

STEPHEN- I know, I know. No G rating here. Laughing at indoor plumbing. Since when does Birmingham have that? So true, you are really the super savvy one, being a blogger in your area, aren't you?!! It gives you an even greater opportunity to stand out from the crowd.

BRIAN-Yes, I am one of "those" bloggers. It is strange when you can finally call your parents "friends". I doubt I will see my mother on facebook anytime soon!

DESIREE- That is cute. My in-laws don't have a clue what I do when I am blogging either. I try to explain it is just a website, but the term blog just scares them away.

SHANNON- It is a tough word to spell! I think the only reason she is subscribed is because I subscribed her for her. :o )

Ginger- Has mom started writing yet? My mother would be up at all hours of the night had she been turned on to blogging while she was alive. She didn't sleep much anyway. It would have been interesting.

Funny ginger/. I think a lot of people read blogs who have no idea they are reading a blog, it's just a website.

Ginger, what a unique way to present this and some of the comments we get from family members and others who just don't understand it. I think as things grow and more and more people jump in, they will be sorry they turned their noses up at what they don't understand.

Blogging is addictive, I must admit. I think I spend far more time reading them, but I can see the positive career benefits, in the form of leads, already...

Fun blog. Reading them is addictive, I have only written a few. Will probably become addicted to that, too, when I get the hang of it.

FREDDY- I don't think my mom will ever blog herself, but at least she knows what one is!

MAUREEN- You are so right, people are scared of the word blog- but they are already viewing them. Now we need to teach them how to subscribe.

MISSY- you mean those agents who are completely missing the boat? The boat has already left the shore.
