Buenaventura Lakes Community was founded in the early 1980's. The core community was 2 and 3 bedroom block houses that were built around the communities golf course, Walking Sticks. The golf course has since been removed which left open spaces behind many homes, but other areas to build more homes. Ten years after the initial building, The main East to West road, Osceola Parkway was developed which brought in more commercial shops, grocery stores, and restaurants. Then the building along Osceola Parkway and Boggy Creek Road began with newer communities and larger homes. About this time the Southern edge of Buenaventura Lakes added Lakeside. Lakeside consists of 14 subdivisions and an elementary school.
Running down the Center of Buenaventura Lakes are recreation and sports fields for the community. Buenaventura Lakes is large enough to be a small town, but remains an unincorporated community of Kissimmee, Florida. There are 15 subdivisions around the initial community that have there own homeowners associations, BVL proper does not. Buenaventura Lakes has it's own Walmart and is just a couple of minutes to the Loop
