Mark Twain Spring is a historical landmark and was named for Samuel Langhorne Clemons, known worldwide as Mark Twain. It was the source of water for early settlers including Clemen's parents who settled on adjoining property to the north, where they lived from 1827-1832.

  • Alvin C. York...

The homeplace of Alvin C. York you can tour the general store, home and birthplace. With gristmill farm, bible school and the final resting place of WWI's most decorated soldier.

Big South Fork is one of the few rivers in the world that actually flows North. Here you can raft, swim or float along the waters of Big South Fork.

  • Swimming : Bask in the warm sun or enjoy a game of Marco Polo at Bandy Creek's Olympic size swimming pool.
  • Fishing : Offering some of the best small mouth bass fishing around and is home of the world record small mouth bass, caught in the year 1955.
  • Rafting and Canoeing : You will find class I to Class VI rapids, with various access points. Experience a guided or self conducted whitewater rafting or multi day canoe and camping trip.
  • Floating : Float on a tube or raft in the cool waters and quiet streams for the ultimate relaxation and get away !

Enjoy Historic John Muir Trail by horseback. john Muir Trail is the Father of our National Park System and Sheltowee Trace Trail meaning Big Turtle, was the name given to Daniel Boone in 1778.

                                                                                               

Put on your hiking shoes and tour the Natural Areas and Formations at Hazard Cove. Be on the look-out for Red Headed Woodpeckers, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mocking Birds, Whippoorwill's, the screech owl and sparrow's. All while taking in the beauty of nature's Mountain Laurels, Azalea's, Rhododendron's and Lady Slippers. Foliage will add to all mother nature has to offer with Sugar Maple, Dogwood, White Oak, Willows, Sycamore, Hickiry and Sassafras !

Melissa, What a wonderful post with so much information about your area....I would really enjoy many of the wonderful things you have listed.  I'm wondering if I could still ride a horse, I haven't done it in so many years...
