Leider in Dark Lover: The Life and Death of Rudolph Valentino argues that the desert exterior scenes were filmed in Oxnard, California, and the Guadalupe Dunes of Santa Barbara County. However, many contend, and history would seem to bear it out, that filming took place at the Famous Players Astoria Studios in Astoria, Queens, New York, with the exteriors shot at the "Walking Dunes" in East Hampton, Long Island.”
