Across television screens and billboards worldwide, The Bahamas is portrayed as an idyllic sanctuary for those who seek to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, offering days filled with sand, sea and sunshine, with a bit of night life and good food thrown in for good measure.  And rightly so.  From the cozy bed & breakfast establishments to the upscale Atlantis and Baha Mar, this beautiful country has something to offer everyone, no matter your lifestyle, custom or taste.

Individuals who plan to relocate to The Bahamas must wonder if the word “stress” even appears in the local dictionary.  While the pace of living is slower compared to the major cities and financial centers of the world, life in this paradise can become hectic.

With the ever-increasing demands by managers, co-workers, clients, and family, it is important to have an avenue by which one can de-stress; a means by which the steam of the day’s pressures can be safely released.  For me and countless others, that stress relief is music.

Having been sent to piano lessons at the age of 6 (long before I could even think of telling my parents “No”), I can say that music has been an integral part of my life.  By the time the schedule of my senior year in high school caused my piano lessons to come to an end, I was proficient enough to play the piano and organ for church services, weddings and other occasions.

With over thirty years in the financial services industry, with its ever-increasing and competing demands from employer, fellow employees and customers, I have experienced that stressed-out feeling more times than I care to recall.  But as I retreated to the sanctuary of my car and began the journey home, the sound of music would envelope me like a cocoon, and the de-stressing was underway.

The advance of technology along with the proliferation of local radio stations has made it easier to access music.  Smart phones and pads have made it much easier to download and play your favourites.  Add to that the many genres of music on the airwaves – from rap and hip-hop to golden oldies, Bahamian and the classics – and your drive home is more enjoyable and traffic snarls more tolerable.  And best of all, your arrival at home will see you in a good mood.

If you want to experience music at its finest, then take note of these upcoming events:
