Twain Harte, California is named in honor of Mark Twain and Brett Harte two of Californias favorite writers. To the best of anyones knowledge neither ever lived here but since the early toll road to Virginia City was once located here it is possible that they may have spent a few hours here enjoying what we still enjoy today...the tall pines , cedars and fresh air of Twain Harte.
The greater Twain Harte area is an ideal area to visit the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains. We are the closest mountain community to the Bay Aera and as such very attractive to people who don't wish to spend their lesiure time on the road. The heart of Twain Harte is it's private lake. On any summer day you can find families enjoying the sun and fresh air of Twain Harte Lake. Twain Harte Lake isn't noted for it's fishing for fishing I would recommend fishing off the dam at Lyons Reservior only 10 minutes from Twain Harte or stream fishing at the Stainslaus River off Frazer Flat Road. What Twain Harte is noted for is golf at the 9 hole Twain harte course or the great collection of resturants in the area.
Around Twain Harte are several "communites" that are also noted as vacation home locations. Cedar Ridge as an example boarders the Stanislaus National forest has two swimming lakes two year round streams an over 40 miles of level hiking trails. You might ask how can you have level hiking trails in the mountains? Well you can and we do. I used to live in Cedar Ridge and loved it.
