These are some good tips to remember right before we enter the Fourth of July Festivities next week. I like the tip about no zooming and no apps. Set up your shot. The best camera is the one thatbisvwith you so sounds like the the iPhone is going to be the winner.
How TO Take Pictures of Fireworks with Your Smartphone.
The fourth of July is celebrated with food, parades, and fireworks. The firework displays can be so lavish that you hope to get a great shot to either develop and frame or post on a social media site to share with friends and family.
Getting a good picture of a fireworks display can be a bit tricky. If you have ever tried it before you know exactly what I mean. Sometimes you are so concerned with getting that "perfect" shot you miss half the show.
Let's face it most of us would rather just pull out our smart phone and take a pic rather than carrying around a large cumbersome camera. So, I will give you some tips on how to take a good photo of fireworks using your phone's camera; and YES this can be achieved.
First, scope out a good spot. Take a look around and may sure someone's head isn't blocking your view, a car or anything not wanted in the shot. If you really want a good shot you have to do this step or you will be sure something will be in the way when it comes time for the display. You don't have to stay at that spot the entire time, just know where to go when the display begins so you can get a good shot.
Hold Steady! After the long day of events and activities it may be a little harder to keep those hands steady but without a steady hand you will be sure to have a photo turning out like the one on the left. Any slight movement of your hand when taking the photo will result in a blurred mess.
Frame in Advance. Be sure to frame your shot in advance. By this I mean watch a few fireworks then put your phone in a frame before you take the pic. Don't try to chase the firework, know where it is and frame it ahead of time.
Tap Before. On the iPhone and other smart phones if you tap the screen the phone automatically focuses. Tap the screen, get it in focus and wait for the perfect shot.
DO NOT Zoom. You may think you will get a better pic by zooming but don't. Take the picture without zoom and crop later. No need to zoom, we are well aware the fireworks are WAY far away.
Don't Use any Apps. Use your cell phones camera with no other app. You can always import the photo later and make changes.
Getting a great photo of a beautiful fireworks display can be done using the camera on your phone if you do the above steps. You will be surprised of how the picture turns out and some might think you used an expensive DLSR camera.
So have fun this fourth of July and get some great pictures!
