Are your iron handrails safe? Check the base.

The safety of an iron hand rail on a stairway may be found in looking at the base of the railing. While the iron may have missing or broken pieces at other locations, but the base is very common source of failure. On a stairway, check to see if there is damage to the concrete steps; this may be a sign of a future problem.
