I have always loved selling old homes, as a Brit, I really appreciate older homes with the charm and character that they offer. Luckily I live on the east coast in the Hudson Valley of New York, and was lucky enough to own my own 1700's cottage on the river until Hurricane Sandy hit last year, which sadly proved too much for our 300 year old which is now inhabitable, and can't be saved from the wreckers ball. Yesterday I discovered my dream home in Warwick NY, sadly I won't be buying it, but I hope to find a buyer who will become a friend and invite me over sometimes.
As a Realtor I get to see many styles of homes from the modern mc. mansions and town-homes, of suburbia, to high rise luxury co-ops in Manhattan, but nothing makes my heart tick faster than finding an historic property which hasn't been neglected and allowed to rot, but has been lovingly updated to allow for modern living standards, yet offering the wonderful ambiance of time gone by.
Yesterday I was in the beautiful Warwick Valley, taking part in the weekly broker tour which allows fellow brokers to preview other agents listings. It is a great opportunity to learn the current inventory, and to discuss the plus's and minus's of each listing. We give our feedback, such as pricing, condition and suggestions, but most importantly it is a great opportunity to discover an ideal match for one of our buyer clients. Yesterday there were 9 homes on the tour of which my company GPS real estate, represented two: a superb log mini-estate with carriage house and barn, and a fabulous Tudor, which has had a superb new addition and fabulous pool with hot-tub and waterfall. Both were very well received by the group of over 20 of our peers, several of which will now bring their buyers to see them shortly.
We also visited the upscale over 55 community Warwick Grove and previewed a beautiful 1st floor apartment condo, a lovely equestrian property with rolling meadows, turnouts and a beautiful barn, plus two well priced Mc.Mansions. But the property that took my breath away, was an amazing 1700's stone colonial. The Horton Sayer House, is one of those properties, which however well photographed, you really need to visit in person to actually "feel" the vibe. This is one of those special properties which only lovers of historic homes will fall in love with, but even those who would ever buy anything other than a new, modern property can truly appreciate simply because it is so special and appealing.
If you haven't visited the beautiful Warwick Valley area, whether you are in the market for a home or not, you really should check it out. There's so much to enjoy here, from the many antique shops, farmers markets, vineyards and great restaurants. There's even a drive in movie theater! You never know, maybe you will consider it the ideal area to move to, and if you do make sure you give us a call!
