This will be short and I'll post more later, as only back in the room for a few minutes. Seth Godin spoke today, in the Key Note Session. It was, without a doubt very inspiring and he spoke on this latest book the The Dip. If you remember this was the book Fran suggested to me I read when I was trying to make my decision on whether to go or stay at RE/MAX.
Yesterday Mariana Wagner spoke on blogging. It was really good, she is an excellent speaker and her personality really comes through. Did I say I felt like I had known her forever?
It's very difficult to teach on blogging when some people aren't sure what it is, and others are more experienced. Blogging does seem to be a hot topic when you talk to people around the convention center. Most people say they are going to start. I actually met a Keller Williams agent at breakfast, from Seattle. He had not heard of Activerain and I got a chuckle out of that.
I met Irena Netchaev at the blogging session. She is from Pasadena, CA.
Here is something Seth Godin said that really stuck with me, "I don't need you to buy a house." "I want you to help me to buy a house." Think about that.... He said tell me a story that makes me feel good about myself.
He also introduced a new site he launced called: SquidZipper. So go sign up, it is where you become the Mayor of your zip code. Sounded a lot like Localism to me. One thing Seth also emphasized was the long tail and becoming an expert in your niche. We hear lots of that on Activerain. The example he used was Amazon selling more books through the internet than was possible to do in a Barnes and Noble book store. That's the long tail.
Mariana set up a blog for her farm and said she only posts on it twice a month. Once at the beginning of the month with her market updates and then if an issue comes up that everyone in her neighborhood farm would want to be updated on. She has got three listings from that blog and only takes a couple of hours a month to maintain. Sounds good to me!
Seth Godin encouraged us to leave the conference and decide between one of two things, one to be the Best In the World or to be average. Well, most people on activerain are not average, trust me on that one.
Met Jennifer Klaussen today at the Coaching Booth, KW calls it MAPS. As a new person I am having to learn the lingo and the abbrevations on everything. Jennifer blogs on Activerain and is from Arlington, VA.
(Terrible photo, we grabbed someone to take it)
More later....
Missy, I'm jealous. Thanks for the updates! Really wish that I could be there, but have been in a Leadership Development class for a couple of days. Enjoy!!
