Fly Fishing Rubber Hatch in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

In fly fishing, one talks about "matching the hatch." Matching the hatch means you select the right artificial fly to match the natural flies that are in the area and what the fish are eating at the time.  During the summer months in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, it's rather predictable that during the hot month of the summer, the "rubber hatch" will be going off - rubber meaning tubes. That's my buddy Bobby working both the hatches. Fishing and tubing the Yampa

Now this "rubber hatch" is a term the Steamboat fly fishing people say when the tubers are out. Tubbing the Yampa river in Steamboat Springs is a very popular summertime event. It's easy, refreshing, and a great way to spend a few hours floating and seeing Steamboat Springs from the river. The Yampa is a great tubing river, it's also a great trout fishing river and these two activities don't always work together. Yet the Yampa river is for everyone to enjoy and fishing and tubing can co-exist together as long as everyone respect their space.Tubing the Yampa

And for those fishing, if you want a little more peace and serenity, there are plenty of other places open to the public to catch fish. Or just pick you, cast to the trout, and say hello to the tubers as they float by. Fish-on, tube-on Steamboat. They are both a blast.

Love the pictures and it sure looks like fun.  I should not be stuck here in the office, but our market is busy and so I am making hay while the sun is shinging.  Thanks for the look outside.

Larry - yep, I have not fished much this year because our market is hot as the sun is shining.
