If A Client Can't Get To Title To Sign..Perhaps A Mobile Notary Will Work!

Just the other day, for the first time in my nine years of being a real estate agent in Portland, I watched as my A couple signing documents with another personclients signed the loan documents at their kitchen table using a mobile notary sent from the Title company. To say I wasn't a bit nervous that something would go amiss..a document not get signed correctly, or worse, that the documents needed correcting and my clients printer was already packed up had me wondering how this would work.

My clients needed to sign, but yet both of their work schedules were just very tight and they couldn't make it happen. The Title company..in this case WFG Title in Lake Oswego made the suggestion that they send out a Notary in the evening for a small fee. They jumped on it and at 8:30 that evening, a very professional Notary name Marianne arrived.

We sat around the table where she discussed in detail every document my first time homebuyer clients were signing. One of the things I love about most Escrow officers are their calmness in going over the procedure and documents. That they can read and explain things upside down is also pretty impressive. Marianne took her time and at 10 PM we were wrapping things up.

Ok..so she did say that those late hours were not typical for her, but we were so thankful that she went over and above so my clients could fund and close their home on time. Needless to say, we were all very impressed! Sometimes we need those extra services that the Title companies and folks like Marianne provide to help facilitate a buyer or seller.Of course I still prefer to sign at the Title company but.....

If a client can't get to Title to sign..perhaps a mobile notory will work! It did for mine!

Cindy, Mobile notaries have been coming to our area for years and they scan the documents and email right on the spot for funding. I was so impressed I got one of those little slide scanners. Spiffy!

Hi Debbie, Nice! This was my first dealing with one and I was obviously impressed. Perhaps she had all those mobile gadets in her car just in case. Spiffy is right!

Cindy, This speaks volumes about your title company.  That is the kind of service that we need. They make us look even better. I am so glad this worked out for you and the clients.

Georgia is an attorney close state, no attorney, no close.  Hasn't always been this way, but is now.  So that off site closing won't working anymore.  Power of Attorney does still work though.

Had this happen just one time and the whole transaction went smoothly. I agree how capable the mobile notary was and how thoroughly he knew the documents as he patiently went through each page. Marvelous that this worked out so nicely for you and your clients.

I once went with a Title Officer 40 miles out in the country to a dump of a home. I told her "do not wear white" and I will bring a card table and chairs to do our signing outside by the river. The home was a skunk infested dump on the prettiest property I have ever sold.

Hi Tammy, I only known closing with Title companies..which after reading many posts about attorneys, listing agent, selling agent, buyer and seller all in the same room at closing...it would be something to get used to!

Hi Jane, Our Notary was also a real estate agent as well as a working with Title for years, so knew the documents well. I'm soooo glad it went really well too! Pleasantly surprised :)

Hi Rob, I hope she took your advice! Reminds me of when I was showing lots of rural property in the winter years ago. At first I wore my dress shoes and slacks, but after the shoes getting mud encrusted and my pants being soaking wet on the bottom 2 inches from the tall grass, I quickly re-thought what I wore on future showings. Sounds like even though the home was nasty, the lot and view was just lovely for signing. Going 40 miles in the country to sign is going above and beyond!

I do signing agent work for several Realtors as a great source of secondary income. It helps pay for my advertising  to stay ahead of other agents. Many times the other agents actually come to my office to close. Great post
