azaleas in bloom

The Azaleas are doing great, blooming and providing joy..but can't say the same about my Day Lillies...as the deer ate the blooms before I could enjoy the beautiful yellow blooms.  I've been told to spray them with milk.  I did tonight and we will see if the deer stay away from them.

Rebecca - The flowers in my garden were beautiful last week, but our temps in the 100s are challenging them quite a bit.  Even when I pour the water to them, some are bitting the dust.  Your Azaelias are lovely.  The blooming season has passed for them here in Sacramento.  They make for a beautiful April and May however!

Indeed Rebecca I agree your Azaleas are doing great!  Our backyard was looking like a colorful park then the triple digits set in and hot winds and now things are at a stand still.  Needless to say Debbie Greenthumb is not a happy gardener.

Myrl, our temps have been very nice as we have had lots of rain.

Mark, yeah one or the other...wish I could have both :)

John, I would not be a happy gardener...having a beautiful backyard and the heat scorches everything.

Keep us updated on your "milk" trick Rebecca. The deer have been getting our buds before they have time to bloom too this year!

Rebecca, I hope the milk works, hadn't heard of that before. I'm sure the azaleas have loved all the rain we've been getting, they're gorgeous!

Rebecca - so if you spray them with milk, will you attract cats or some other wildlife? Well, the heat has take a toll on many plants already. I guess we have to enjoy what we have, while we have them. Azaleas sure are beautiful! I tried planting them here in TX but they don't last. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment with your Azaleas because they sure are beautiful!!!

Dale, I had not heard of spraying milk on plants to keep the deer away until last week.

Patricia, OMG I can just imagine all the cats in the neighborhood licking the plants :)

Rebecca, you put a lot of energy into your flowers, and those darn deer feel that is their feeding ground.  Sure hope milk works, and your plants are saved.
