Realtors Do Not Try This at Home--OR at Your Listing!
Gayle, I am glad that you survived your acrobatics in real estate day. I would have spent my afternoon repairing a broken window before I jumped over the edge to catch a wood rack, you are braver and more agile than I am.
Realtors Do Not Try This at Home--OR at Your Listing!
We've all had our less-than-stellar moments as realtors, getting ourselves into fixes that we can barely get out of. Today was one of mine.
I was busy taking photos of a new listing and went out onto the 2nd floor deck to take landscape shots. Here's what the deck looks like:
I got done and went to go back inside. Much to my chagrin, the door had closed and was locked. Well, we've all been there before a time or two, right? HOWEVER....there is no EXIT from that deck other than through that door. I went through a few seconds of self abomination and then thought, hey, maybe the guys who are building two lots over will hear me! So, I yelled HELLO a couple of times. NOTHING. Well, of course they weren't here, because it's raining and they don't even have the foundation done yet. There is no cell service up here. And, being mostly a vacation community, there was no neighbor nearby, either.
So it was up to me to get myself out of this predicament. I marched around looking at all of the possibilities. This sturdy railing was my best bet.
I looked down. Here is what I saw after giving up on the idea of scaling some tree.
After leaning way over, I saw that there was a woodpile underneath enclosed in a heavy metal barrier.
That was my only option besides leaping onto concrete or the deck below and breaking something!
Thank God I wasn't wearing a skirt and had on my trusty Danskos with the rubber soles. I gingerly threw one leg over the railing, shimmied slowly down searching for a foothold below with one leg while the other stayed put on the upper deck and after a moment of consternation I realized that if I changed my hand position I could reach down with one hand and grasp onto a part of the metal barrier and only have a brief second of relying on my balancing skills before letting go of the railing post above and catching myself with my other hand before falling over backwards. Who knew that those early years of gymnastics would come in handy during my real estate career oh so many years later??
I made it with only a small wound to my ego, shook my head at my own stupidity and thought to myself, well THIS will be fun to blog about!!
