If there’s one thing that can make a clean bathroom look dull and dingy it’s those water stained shower doors. Actually that lack luster look is caused by a multitude of factors.

First of all “hard” water stains are the beginning of the problem. Minerals contained within hard water including magnesium and calcium remains on the shower doors after the water has evaporated. Soap residue will stick to this surface when it dries as well forming a hard dull coating over the glass. This coating prevents your usual cleaning products from being able to work properly and before long your shower doors begin to lose that show room sparkle.

There is a way to remove this grimy surface that doesn’t require any harsh chemicals of any kind. First you’ll need to fill a small bowl or any container with everyday household vinegar. Allow your scrub brush to soak for a few minutes and become completely saturated before scrubbing the entire surface of the doors. It will take a bit of real elbow grease but the vinegar will do the trick.

Next you will want to rinse the doors with cool water and then dry them completely with a towel. This part is important. If you allow them to air dry you won’t get the same results!

If your doors have that “etched in” look in certain places after following the steps above this will be your next step. Mix 4 teaspoons of white vinegar with 2 teaspoons of baking soda and scrub the etched in stains using a damp sponge. This will return your shower to the shiny sparkling condition that it was in when you first bought it!

To maintain the new look you can simply fill a spray bottle with white vinegar, spray the doors and clean them with a soft cloth. Always be sure to dry them with a towel after cleaning. The first cleaning is the toughest but performing this task weekly will make the job a lot easier in the future and you will again have a bathroom to be proud of!
