Maybe you've heard of the Northwest being God's Country, or the phrase 'Near Nature, Near Perfect'. Spokane Washington has a lot to offer just about everyone. With the congestion and crime of many large cities and the desire to find a place to raise a family or retire where home prices are still reasonable, Spokane is an Excellent choice.
Living in Spokane you sometimes forget what you have, Golfing almost in every direction, 4-5 major Ski resorts for your winter time fun within about 1 hour drive, Housing costs where you can afford to sell your home where you are and take your equity and pay for a home cash. Schools with high standards and teachers that care. 
Spokane still has a sense of community that many larger cities have lost. We are not spread out like Seattle and other areas where traffic is a factor, you can get almost anywhere in Spokane in less that 20-30 minutes with most trips about 10 minutes. Great malls, Lush parks. We really have it all
Spokane is awsome. We have lived here for over three years and moved from Montana. I swore I would never move to a "big city", but Spokane certainly is not like I thought. It has that smalltown feeling and like you said, recreation in all directions. Really, I would recommend Spokane to anyone wanting to get out of the truley larger cities and stretch there wings to Spokane. Thank you Rick for sharing about Spokane!
Yeah I have to say, I have lived in other cities and I really like the balance Spokane has to offer.
I like Spokane, we also have a lot to offer in Vancouver.
