I write these words with total respect for our Ancestors who formed this great Nation. Not just those we know like Jefferson and Washington, et al. But rather those who few know about that toiled behind the scenes for centuries and are today...such as our Son who works in Washington, DC.
Jake went to Washington as Intern for Senator Johanns of Nebraska on January 3rd and is still there working for the Senator.
If John Q. Public knew what Jake now knows or even what I now know...John Q. would understand that there are hundreds...no...thousands of people who have given their civilian service to our country and have done it willingly without the distrust or disrespect that is portrayed in the media.
Regardless of any political affiliation...the work there is hard...fast paced and intense. Difficult, yet rewarding is what Jake says. And yet all you hear is nothing is happening.
Forget about 40 hour work weeks. Sometimes they are like 60 or 70 hours. And that has been going on for over 237 years! A tough job...and many times work that is totally underappreciated and definitely misunderstood.
Many have said that no one wants to get anything done and yet there is work accomplished and compromise on a daily basis. Sometimes what is seen publicly has little to do with what is happening behind the scenes and it has been that way for centuries. And will continue to be that way.
So today I pay tribute to those who toil for our great country...without regard for their political affiliation. Thank you for the work you do and the sacrifice of being hundreds or thousands of miles from family and friends to accomplish your work. You have my utmost respect.
And to my son...If I was your son...I would have the greatest role model... even as your Dad...I still look to you as a role model for me.
HAPPY 4th of JULY, Son!
You make me so proud...I am truly a Lucky Dad!!
I Love you...and Wish You Enough!!
