I Just Need A Clear Path To Work

 

We do a lot of repair work in apartment units, many of which are in Sacramento, CA. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to get a clear path to get to the project area.

The tenants are always notified in advance that we are coming to repair the apartment, but many will make little or no effort to help in getting things out of the way for the repairs. I can never quite figure this part out, we are there to help fix the problem; why is it such a struggle to just make some room to work?

 

Once we have a clear path, we will protect the unit with drop cloths, plastic, vacuums and much more if we have the room to work.

Hi Tom,

Just like doing a home inspection. Only we need to get to every part of the home. No one really helps at all. They expect us to have to move anything to get into places we need to. Not going to happen.

Scott - We can often times see that the moment we walk in. It's not like they just got back from vacation and haven't had a chance to put things away. I'm talking about piles of dusty junk that is just sitting there.

I looked at an apartment house for sale. The tenants had lived there for years and knew we were coming. When we arrived they said sorry it is a little bit messy. How about it hadn't been cleaned in years and they were just stepping over the stuff including trash.

This is not just an issue with renters, as I've seen many homeowners who live that way in Sacramento. Real estate agents see a lot of things that your average person would not believe -- lots of people live in squalor. Even in multi-million dollar homes. They don't see it, either.

Yeah, Tom, we are running into actual "hoarders," and my guys really have a challenge to get to an actual water damaged area in multi-million dollar homes.  It's OCD diagnosed, but in reverse, it seems.  We give lots of notice for mold mitigation/removal too, but even homeowners are not always cooperative.
