Those of us who are from Cleveland relish the gritty, roll up your sleeves history, the sight of a steel mill chimney spewing fire at night; I even have a photo of a rainbow I took as a kid, as a backdrop to a steel mill. Cities embrace their heritage or they lose their identity; at least that is my humble opinion.

To show ya that Clevelanders embrace Industry, this is the view from Tremont, Cleveland's hottest west side housing market, and the most coveted views are like the heart stopping one (to me anyway) on the left.

Now we have Steelyard Commons. On the surface it's WalMart and Target. But look closer, and there is even a playground that looks like an old blast furnace. The Western Reserve Historical Society is also working with the developers at Steeyard (and yes Mr. Brady, it's private industry lol) to establish the Steel Museum on the premises.

It's exciting - of course there is also a Railroad involved (my new fanaticism), and to read more about it, go HERE to my other blog.

Peace Out - 3C

I like it!  Of course, being a Pittsburgher, I remember all the old Steel Mills in the City ... those night views were unforgettable.  It's a 'burgh thing you know!

It's a lift bridge!  A true lift bridge.  Is it working still?  We have one in St. Paul and Duluth has one, but I think they were going to "retire" it.  The only other bridge that fascinates me more is the swing bridge.

I'm sorry, Carole, but I can't see the Walmart and Target in the pix.  I'd rather look at the mill residue!

LOL Hi Bonnie, yes, that's why no WalMart in the pic lol.   Yes, the bridge still works, there are at least three that work; no plans to retire them. :-)

Love the rendering of the playground area. Real visionaries! Centralization of work, play and industry are not new ideas yet, their implementation in innovative ways sure are. It is good to see that developers are making a difference in your neck of the woods.

Hi Carole:  I think you may remember that I taught seventh grade at St John Cantius Parish elementary school.  It was my first year of teaching, and it was quite an experience, to say the least.  I am quite curious.  What is the market like in those older homes around the church and the school.  You mentioned it is one of the hottest markets in Cleveland... so I just wondered... so many years after my teaching there... which was in 1965.

You may be asking yourself how did I "resurrect" this post ?  Well... I was just reading your keywords list going down the right side of your page... under your name, and saw the words "believe in Cleveland."  I clicked on them, and it took me here.  Thanks for sharing.  If you are every down there, and have your camera with you... please take a picture or two of the school, the church, and some other shots around the neighborhood.  Thanks so much.   Karen Anne
