If you didn’t get enough of celebrating your independence during the 4th of July fun and fanfare – there is another 4th like event right around the corner! Bastille Day!  What is Bastille Day? Well, it’s a day of celebrations of French culture. It commemorates the storming of the Bastille, which took place on 14 July 1789 and marked the start of the French Revolution. The Bastille was a prison and a symbol of the absolute and arbitrary power of Louis the 16th's  Ancient Regime.  By capturing this symbol, the people signaled that power could be held by ordinary citizens, not in the king or in God.  Many large events are held, including a military parade in Paris, as well as parties and fireworks.  There will also be plenty of events across Southern Louisiana too!

On the Northshore, celebrate the French heritage of Louisiana at two events  featuring the Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band.  The celebrations will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the Slidell Branch Library, 555 Robert Blvd., Slidell and from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the Folsom Branch Library, 82393 Railroad Ave., Folsom. On the Southshore, a series of events commemorating the French Independence Day are scheduled the weekend of July 12 through the 14th.  The weekend kicks off with a free Bastille Day Kick-Off Networking Cocktail at Dijon Restaurant on Friday, July 12. Across town, the historic Faubourg St. John neighborhood will be holding their annual Bastille Day celebration as well.
