So I am very new to this "blogging" thing. I must confess I spend the hours I allocate to my business doing crazy things like staying in touch with my present & past clients, maintaining my listings, searching the MLS for my buyers, researching new marketing strategies & organizing my next client appreciation event so much so that I really don't have a lot of time to "Blog"!. Such silly stuff you would almost think I wanted to be a Realtor.

Well, here is my naive observation. The Realtors who have the most points on Active Rain and the most time to praise themselves are actually quite inactive in the real-estate world. Forgive me, but isn't the proof in the pudding? Here in sunny Maryland (and please realize that ALL of this is tongue in cheek) we can see everyones activity. I know what you sold last year!!!!!! If you sold less than 4 million, you claim to be a full time agent and you are not retired and just dabbling, was it really worth it after you take out expenses?

True, you can check me on MRIS & see how active I was. My professional productivity was a little slower than 2005. But not because of the market....it was an awesome year.

My distraction

Forgive me for being such a shameless new mother!!!!! It was just a little distraction.

Ellie,

First, congradulations on the new life you have brought into the world, what a beautiful child.

I just wanted to make a quick comment, most of us that read blogs do it more for the learning of how others work than for points, blogs have been around for awhile now and activerain is just one of many.  The top two bloggers in Maryland on AR are both very successful agents, but success doesnt have a dollar figure.  I have done nearly 10 million last year, so using your measure; I guess I am successful.  That being said, I don't do real estate 24/7, I enjoy life to it's fullest.  I do love working in real estate primarily for the freedom it gives me for my other passions in life.  When I write a blog, it is to give to others my passions about the subject that I am writing about during that particular time.  Sometimes, it is about me, sometimes it is writing something that I hope will help others in their career.

What suprised me the most about your post is that you feel that many of us blog for self gratification and a waste of time, yet you felt it necessary to research the MLS to see what others who blog were producing.  I don't think the MLS is going to give you the whole story on any one person, some are new and trying to get started, others are part timers.  Others are full time agents who also enjoy life like Mary and I, we live by the rule of work hard play hard.  It never entered my mind to search the MLS on anyone to find out what their productivity was.  I honestly do not care.

To finish, blogging can be a form of networking.  I just seen a post today on someone who got a listing by referral from someone on AR.  BTW, the top blogger on AR from Maryland sends me referrals all the time.  I didn't meet her on AR, but another avenue of internet networking.  Part of being successful is allowing others to know you, and what better place than on the internet.  Read some of Mary McKnights posts, she has a great piece on blogging.

Touche'

A very apt and well written response to my entry. It was done "tongue in cheek" as stated and I do confess I do check volume on the MLS. I don't really have a reason why, but it amuses me.

Hey, I scuba dive in caves, some tell me that I have a death wish, but man; what beautiful scenery.  I don't get to Howard very often, most content being up here in Harford/Cecil/North Baltimore, maybe you guys will do a transaction with us one day.

What a beautiful baby!  Congratulations.  You will find that AR will take no time at all if you find a set time to work it in.  I am working on that myself.  I am trying not to be so sporatic with my posts.  I have an agent in my office who is seeing very strong results from her blogging voice.  I am hopeful that I can develop into a consistant blogger like her.  "Finding my voice" is what she calls it.  She found hers and she has LOTS o' points.  She is also RE/MAX platinum with two new buyer agents in place.  Man, if she has time to do this then I should be swimming in AR!!

Enjoy, you are going to meet some life long friends!

Thanks Virginia, he has added a new dimension to my life.

On a business note I am always looking for a good Realtor in Charlotte to refer business to, I have many friends and family in the area and each time I have used my Relo department, they have found a Dud! Could have used you in The Point" in Mooresville in December to write a contract and list a house. They had a miserable experience.

That is too bad to hear they had a rough time.  You should NEVER have a rough time at The Point.   I would love to be your "go to girl" in the Charlotte area. I am a native to the area  and know it like the back of my hand. I won't leave your clients hanging and I will make you look great for the recommendation!!

Don't you love AR.   Meeting new friends and colleagues everyday!
