What NOT To Do on Social Media!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with RealSupport Inc.

As you know, social media is a major player in marketing and online branding, and has become a more powerful tool than any of us probably thought possible.  Real Estate industry professionals have victoriously jumped on the bandwagon and, those who do it right, have been reaping the benefits.

The social media experts on our Real Estate Virtual Assistant team have successfully helped many in the industry take their online presence from conception and branding to daily interacting on Facebook, Twitter and other sites on their behalf, and our clients have been thrilled!  They enjoy not having to worry about posting or tweeting multiple times a day, and resting in the fact that our experienced team is taking care of this aspect of their marketing.  As Real Estate Virtual Assistants; it’s what we’re here to do, and we love it!

If, however, you’re still tackling your social media on your own; there are a few things you’ll want to be sure to avoid!  I recently came across an article that polled twelve digital experts on what NOT to do on social media.  Here are a few that I thought would be helpful.  Whether you already knew about these social media faux pas or not,  it’s always good to have a reminder to help stay on course.  See if any of these ring true with you before it’s too late!

1. Inconsistent Branding- If your website looks completely different than your Facebook, and your Facebook has a different feel than Twitter; it’s time for a change!  Your entire online presence should be consistent with things like logos, photos, colors and your message.  You’ll want to customize your Facebook and Twitter as much as possible with elements from your website.  If you have a tagline, make sure it’s the same one you’re using on every platform and you’ll create a stronger message about who you are and the services you offer.

2. Talking About Yourself Too Much- It can be easy to want to showcase all of your open houses and latest homes on the market (and you should), but if that’s all you ever post; your audience will be less likely to engage.  It will come across that you’re all about promoting yourself and have forgotten to “talk” with those you’re trying to reach. Social media is all about interaction, so be sure to also post useful tips or ask questions that will allow people to find value and respond to what you’re posting.

3. Jumping In, But Not Staying In- This is one of the easiest faux pas to commit.  You’re excited in the beginning about your social media presence, but after a few months, you find there just isn’t the time to put into it and you slowly give up.  Many of our clients have come to us with this same issue and realize they don’t have the margin to dedicate the time needed to staying up on and using their social media to the fullest.

And it’s important to note that it does take dedication to really engage online.  There are some of you who are doing a great job and love the day in, day out interaction; keep up the great work!  But, for those of you who find your social media slipping through the cracks, and you’d like some help; we’d love to talk with you!

Hopefully reviewing what NOT to do will help get you back on track or can be a catalyst for realizing it’s not where you want to be spending your time and you’d rather have an experienced member of our team handle your social media for you.  Either way, we’re glad you stopped by and, as always, would love to hear your feedback!

I know I'm guilty of not being consistant. Often I just think I have really nothing of importance to say..LOL. Good post and list!

A Friend calls me today, he runs a multi-million dollar company.  Sales are down.

I looked at his Facebook and Twitter Pages - they have not been updated in 6 months!  I told him, "It looks like your Company is dead."  He thanked me and said he would get right on it.

I have noticed the lack of Facebook posts from many companies in my area as well.

They can program them weeks in advance using tools such as Hootsuite and not spend all day, every day updating.

4 years ago, I was not a fan of Facebook, but am growing to enjoy the interaction.
