A few steps to make your home a green home

There are steps you must take if you want to live in a green home, don't only focus on one part of your house, like the bedroom or living room. You should also put your focus on the kitchen. It's the most important place in a house, think about it, it's where you prep and make food from scratch, dine with your family and spend the majority of your meal times at. The kitchen should ALWAYS be clean, fresh and organized. Insects can thrive in a filthy kitchen, point blank! Therefore, not only a green, but a CLEAN kitchen is a must!!

Let's talk about the counter tops to start, the contractors I work with usually recommend wood for various reasons. Besides making the area look more natural and more presentable it's mold resistant and cheaper if you buy wood native to your region to cut down transportation costs. Bamboo and reclaimed wood are the most eco- friendly countertops. How about changing your cutting boards from plastics to wood ? And if you can... go for wooden cabinets also! Remember wood materials placed in the kitchen add more oomph to the place.

And use eco-friendly soaps and cleaners. There are numerous cleaners and detergents on the market that are made of non-toxic components. These are easy on the land and water, so you don't have to feel guilty every time you use it. Such products are cheaper if you look in the right places online. You could always create your own kitchen cleaning formula that's made of natural ingredients like vinegar, ammonia, and lemon. Just search online for more natural kitchen cleaning ingredients and processes.

There are some interesting choices for green counters to choose from Kenrick. I like the cleaning options too!
