I thought with Valentines Day being here it would be nice to know the meaning behind some of the different colors of roses. Although red roses are beautiful it might be interesting to give someone a different color this year to match their favorite team, favorite color, have a special meaning, etc.

Red - Love and Romance

Pink - Grace, Elegance, Joyfulness

Yellow - Joy and Friendship

White - Innocence and Purity

Orange - Passion and Excitement

Lavendar - Enchantment, Love at First Sight

What are your favorite colors to give and recieve?

I think my favorite flowers to recieve are the ones my kids hand pick for me (even out of my own garden) and even if it's a dandelion. I usually have a small vase filled in the house with my latest gifts from my babies.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Valentines Day tomorrow and remember to tell everyone special to you that you love them!

Charity, I remember those days when my kids were little and every "flower" that a weed could produce was in a vase on my kitchen window sill :)  I miss that!

Lisa - Isn't that so much nicer than the biggest fanciest arrangement. A cute little kid with a dandelion on a short stem melts my heart in a minute.

Christina - You're welcome. I thought it would be kind of fun to know the meanings behind each.

Hope everyone had had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Mmmm. I love the thoughtfulness of any colored flower given to me by surprise! They hold beautiful meanings don't they?

Lindsey - I agree. I still have paper flowers and silk flowers that the kids have given to me over the years and I keep them in their special little vases and I will always cherish them. I think for most of us it is the thought that counts and not the price tag.

Charity,  Before I became a Realtor I was a and still am a floral designer. The old schooled say, red roses mean passion that is not the same as love. In the days when we spoke through flowers a woman who received only red roses would think the man was impassioned by her. But, had no intention of doing the right thing. He would need to send red and white. And those yellow roses? jealousy or a decrease of affection. Their meaning has only recently changed. I think Hallmark and F.T.D. got together to change that one. Woe to the girl who received red roses and bachelor buttons, and could not take the hint. I hope you had a great St. Valentine's Day

Carol - That it so interesting! Thanks for sharing. I had no idea. I've always loved all kinds of flowers but yellow roses always hold a special place in my heart because they were my Nana's favorite and I lost her many years ago in her battle of breast cancer. Now, everytime I see a yellow rose bush I remember her and how vibrant and loving she was.

That is too funny about the red roses and bachelor buttons!

Charity, I'm happy that yellow roses now mean something positive. I always think of my NonNon when I see pink roses or peonies. I miss working with flowers for that reason. They have memories for people.
