I've Got the Overpriced Blues - Lyrics by Jeff Dowler

I was going through some VERY old posts recently and found this song I had written while at an open house waaay back in 2007. Clearly the open house was not busy and I had plenty of free time on my hands, perhaps because of being over-priced.

Does YOUR house have the over-priced blues? While our area, and many others, are clearly in a sellers market, with low inventory, high buyer demand and rising prices, you still see homes that are over-priced. You can usually tell. Some things never change about pricing incorrectly, and I thought the lyrics I wrote almost 6 years ago still ring true. What do you think?

I 'm a big Etta James fan and enjoy her music, especially the song I used for this post. She was terrific in concert, but alas we have lost one of the great blues singers.

This song was written to the tune "Little Red Rooster," (watch the video below). In my opinion, hers was the best version of this song. I thought the blues was especially appropriate when you consider the subject. My lyrics are longer so you need to repeat the song a couple of times...but you get the idea.

My seller done want to sell me, say he gonna get a CMA

Oh, my seller he want to sell me, says he gonna get a CMA...oh yeah

But it really don't matter much, coz he don't do what the CMA say

So they put me on the market, didn't fix me up or stage me at all

They put me on the market, and didn't fix me up or stage me at all...oh yeah

The price so high my agent he say, ain't no one gonna call

Little red rooster we spotted in KauaiThey put me in the paper, took my picture and stuck me on the ‘Net

Oh, they put me in the paper, took my picture, then stuck me on the ‘Net...oh yeah

My seller, he gettin' anxious, coz no offer did he get.

I'm sittin' here forever, got no furniture and got no views

Oh, I'm sittin' here forever, got no furniture and got no views...oh yeah

Ain't nothing left to do now, coz I got the overpriced blues

My seller, he fired the agent, say he gonna sell me all alone

Oh yes, my seller done fired the agent, say he gonna sell me all alone

But he ain't gotta clue ‘bout it, so all he does is sit by the phone

A buyer, she made an offer, my seller he so pleased at the news

Oh, yeah it's a lowball offer, but my seller, he so pleased with the news

Turns out she can't get a loan, man I got the overpriced blues

My seller finally sold me, gotta price so low it shook him in his shoes

On my seller he finally sell me, got a price so low it shook him in his shoes.

Ain't nothing he can do now, coz we used to have the overpriced blues.

Mitch

I enjoyed reading it again, too. I had totally forgotten about it. I think it's still true
