Home Buyer Worries - The 7 Things that Worry Home Buyers Most

A recent survey conducted by Trulia and Harris Interactive questioned more than 2000 US home buyers in June about what worried them the most about the Home Buying and Selling Process.
                                                                                                                        Worried Home Buyer
Here's what they found:

Mortgage interest rates rising before I buy - 41%
Not finding a home for sale that I like - 36%
Not qualifying for a mortgage - 30%
Competing with other buyers - 27%
Home prices falling after I buy - 25%
Home prices rising before I buy - 37%
Deciding on a home too quickly - 19%

In hotter markets where homes are moving fast, the survey found that these 7 Home Buyer worries instensify.  Read the full study from Trulia.

These are all valid worries but a good Realtor can help alleviate the stress and uncertainty behind these.  If you're buying in El Dorado Hills or the surrounding areas, I'd love to help!

I would hate to be a first time buyer right now in most markets.  Such a challenge to find a good deal especially with FHA or VA financing.

Great insight into what buyers are thinking.

The importance of reviewing the "what if" of rising rates before locking in an interest rate is something I show many shoppers.  Many times after they see the minimal difference in monthly payment (ex: $270k purchase, 5% down... for every .125% in rate change the payment moves about $20/mo) it helps minimize that "worry".

But like many folks who commented... getting shoppers in front of a qualified "mortgage guy" (with all the MI options along with State/City/County DPA programs) is KEY to getting their comfort level to a more manageable level.

I am seeing this but would sum it up in one sentence "Scared to Buy and Scared not to Buy."

DeeDee, Thank you for that great list.  I find it to be very accurate with what I am finding. I'd like to add that Homes Inspection Results also seem stressful for many buyers.

All of those buyer worries remind us that buying a home is a big deal. Deciding where you and your family will live for years to come is not a decision to be taken lightly.

Hi DeeDee, interesting study.  Not sure it would apply here.  We are still in a buyer's market.

With interest rising from about 3% to over 4.5%, it has to make a difference in buying a home. Reduced inventory is starting to be an issue here also.

Some valid concerns that may not all be explained away, depending on your market.  My buyers rarely bring up any of these, with the exceptions of mtge qualification and now, prices rising.  They just want to move.  It's interesting the different concerns we agents see in our customers.  Here it used to be buyers waiting until the time is right...when prices fall to reasonable levels, but now buyers I speak to are unaware of the seller's market and just how difficult it is locating lower priced homes here (up to about $250K).  I suspect some of what we attract comes from our own preconceptions and past experiences.
