Bubble Days
Time: Noon - 4:00pm
Location: Maryland Science Center
Cost: Free with paid admission
Who should attend: Parents and kids of all ages
When: Sat, July 20 & Sun, July 21
Join us for the Maryland Science Center’s 8th Annual Bubble Days. The fun will be bubbling up all over the building—and outside too as we celebrate the art and science of bubbles. Throughout the day, you’ll learn the secret science behind how bubbles are made and have the chance to take home some of your very own bubble solution. Participate in games and contests for a chance to win great prizes and join our workshops for some bubbling experiments. Bubbles come in all shapes and sizes, and there will be something bubbling for all of our visitors—everybody loves bubbles!
Our feature event is internationally famous bubble artist Casey Carle who performs his bubbly brand of humor and artistry in BUBBLEMANIA. We promise--you'll be amazed at what Casey can do with seemingly ordinary soap bubbles. Performances will be on our Atrium Stage at Noon, 2:00, and 4:00.
Thing-a-ma-jigs
Location: Maryland Science Center
Cost: Free with paid admission
Who should attend: Recommended for Age 8+
What is it? It’s Thing-a-ma-jigs—a chance to pretend you’re MacGyver and solve the problem with found objects and quick thinking. Thingamajigs are engineering challenges where MSC staffers define the task, provide parts, and let you design the contraption that solves the problem.
Schedule:
Tuesday, July 8; 2:00-4:00pm
Design a sculpture that can balance on a single point.
Tuesday, July 16; 2:00-4:00pm
Design a marble roller coaster with hills, rolls, twists, and loop-d-loops.
Monday, July 22; 2:00-4:00pm
Build a tower out of unusual materials and test it on the earthquake table.
Wednesday, July 24; 2:00-4:00pm
Create a seed-carrying contraption that won’t fly too high but will float just right.
Check back to see what challenges will take place during Thing-a-ma-jigs later this summer.
Dates include:
July 30 and August 2, 6, 8, 14, 20, 23; 2:00pm-4:00pm
