Great adventure Lisa, you are a brave lady, it is good that you left your dog at home, dogs and bears generally lead to trouble and seldom leads to good photos.

We see a few of these fellows where we work but never get any pics, by the time we notice them they are coming out of their hiding places and taking off for a different neighborhood at a fast run.

These are some great pics, and it is amazing that this little tree held that large bear without breaking.

It FINALLY happened - I FINALLY saw My First Bear in Vermont!!!!!!!  It was around 7:30 last night. My neighbor about a half mile away texted me and said "Be Careful if you are out walking Sadie, I just saw a big black bear".  Most normal people would rush back home and go inside to be safe.  What do I do? I rush back home, ditch the dog, grab the camera and sprinted as fast as I could through the woods looking for 'my bear'.

I came upon him with the biggest smile on my face.  I'd finally found My Bear.  But I was too far away for a good photo.  Stealth.  I belly crawled for about a hundred feet keeping close to the treeline hoping that he wouldn't see me and run off (or decide to eat me).  My heart was racing in my chest.  I was shaking from the adrenaline rush. I literally couldn't stop shaking as I was so scared and so excited at the same time!

I just couldn't get a good angle for photos from my position.  I was about seventy feet away now.  Seeming as seeing a bear in Vermont was on my list of the Top 100 Things I Want to do Before I Die - even if I might die doing it, I took a calculated risk, stood up, walked out into the open and starting photographing Mr. Bear.  He glanced over at me, then decided to climb his tree.  Was he trying to hide?  He didn't do a very good job :)  I was so THRILLED to get these few photos - my heart racing the entire time.  I don't think I've ever had a bigger smile on my face.  To see a bear out in nature like that was just my Ultimate.

SAY CHEESE!!!

Let me see - if I climb this tree, maybe the lady over there with the camera won't see me if I hide.

This picture was taken without zooming in the camera - this is how close I was!

Time to play on top of the tree for a while.  I like the way it sways!

Time to go give a bear hug to the photographer!

Funny, my neighbor thought she was warning me about the bear, then I go out of my way to try and find it!  She is telling everyone that 'Lisa treed a bear'  :)   Ah, the thrill of a lifetime.

No Guts, No Glory!

Funny reblog. I saw one up close and personal in the mountains then a few years back had one about 10 feet from me tearing up our garbage cans that woke me up.

Hey Bob...good looking bear...I live in Maine...the Black Bear State and I had to go to Tennessee before I actually saw one up close and personal. They don't hangout too close to Portland but they are out there!

Bob - she is one lucky lady what would she have done if that bear had decided to come after here despite their size they can run up to 35 miles an hour which is a lot faster than she likely could.

Bears can make for a thrilling encounter, but after meeting dozens of them out in the woods over the years, I am fairly confident that they are much more afraid of us than we are of them and they generally are running 35 mph in the other direction by the time that I notice them.
