Richard Sweum: Off Topic Vent...My Summer Vacation is Boring!
OK...my mind has been too consumed with all matters of mortgage, real estate and business minutia. Granting myself 10 minutes to vent on an "off topic" is
"This Summer vacation is boring!" Ok, a little vent. When I was growing up, my Summer vacations were pretty unstructured and an "exciting family trip" was not a given...maybe "one" every 4 or 5 years. I was fortunate to have Scout camp or a 50-miler to look forward to but the rest was left up to my imagination and initiative. I remember one Summer, the highlight was a bottle cap collecting competition I had with a neighborhood friend/rival. The target? Lucky beer bottle caps, the ones with the picture puzzle printed underneath. The legal search area? North of 10th street down to Legion Park. The time frame... July 4th to Labor day.
I must have had over 200 Lucky bottle caps in my Folgers coffee can by the end of July alone. How all those beer bottle caps ended up strewn about the streets of North Everett escaped me at the time, but now it sure seems to infer that there was a lot of "drinking WHILE driving" going on! Turns out, my friend had an alcoholic neighbor with a passion for Lucky beer...so I lost the competition. My point is...I doubt my kids will ever have a Summer vacation like I had, and it chaps my hide when I hear them complaining that their friends are going to Chelan, or Disneyland and we never go anywhere. I'm going to suggest the beer bottle cap competition tonight...we'll see how it goes!
