Visiting Downtown San Diego on any evening can be an engaging experience. Amongst all the building lights and the wonderful street lighting there is a feeling of safety not always found in other big cities. The downtown is positioned on the San Diego Bay and fronted on two sides by water. The amount of housing has been steadily increasing over the last decade. It seems the more people that call downtown home, the safer it looks and feels.
The Gaslamp Quarter which has the largest collection of restaurants on the planet, generates so much activity, the nighttime on the street looks like Manhattan in the daylight hours. Except instead of rushing around to get somewhere, the patrons are hanging out like food and drink are free and it is party time. And for most of them, it is. So naturally there are lots of lights and activity and it all adds to the beauty of the downtown San Diego.
