What's a City Girl Like Me Doing in a Place Like This?

I grew up and spent my whole life in suburbs surrounding big cities or metropolitan areas.  I never thought I could live in a small  community such as Sedona.  But here I am!

My biggest concern was, where in the heck were the shopping malls? Even more importantly, there were no NORDSTROM's. The nearest Nordstroms was two hours away. YIKES!

Once I started to realize that life goes on (barely) without Nordstroms, I started to enjoy the peace and quiet of my natural surroundings.  Little did I know that there were all kinds of animals within a stone's throw of my house. I decided to share a few pics that both me and my husband have taken over the years.  The two bobcats in the first picture are part of Sedona life.  Mom was teaching them how to hunt and there was one more not in the picture. But the universe gave my husband the opportunity to capture these two bobcat kittens in a playful mood and then this miracle of photography happened before his eyes.

All these pictures were taken from our backyard by either me or my husband.  The lone exception is the Cardinal that is perched with the red rocks in the background.  I wake up every morning and can't wait to see what nature will bring me that day!

Gorgeous photos, Sheri.  Welcome to the rural life!  I'm sure you'll make it to Nordstrom's when desperation sets in, and enjoy yourself in the meanwhile.

My first trip to Sedona was in the 1970's, on a 1000-Class Motorcycle.  I've been many times since.

Sedona is unique, from L'Auberge to Junipine to Coffee Pot Rock to Crescent Moon Ranch.  Thanks for the photos!

Sheri,  Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos!  With beauty like this all around, you may never need to visit Nordstrom's again.  Enjoy every moment you are able to.

I think the opportunity to see all that wildlife and get all those amazing pictures is well worth giving up a little shopping.  You picked a great place to live!

Peter,

Small town living is wonderful! There is always a day trip to Scottsdale for shopping!

Jim,

Being around all this wonderful wildlife has made me appreciate where I live.

Anna,

Thank you so much for the feature! I just hope it brings pleasure to those who love nature.

Fred,

I only wish I would have found this gem as early as you did!

Rebecca,

Thank You! You are so very welcome. I am glad you enjoyed them. I have a little confession to make.  Nordstrom's has a great website and I use it regularly. But I still shop in person for shoes!

Bryan,

I couldn't have stated it better!  Thank you!

Sharon,

Yesterday during a micro-burst I could have sworn I saw Noah!  As long as we have lived here, the only wildlife we have not seen is a bear.  I finally saw a racoon earlier this year.  Mountain Lions move through the wash near our home and we will see one at least once a year.

Hi Christine,

It took us awhile to get those bobcat kittens to pose like that! ;-)

There is one wild life creature that I have not seen in these parts.... alligators!

Thanks for sharing, Shari. These photos must have been taken over a long time period. They are beautiful and quite unusual.

We in Prescott have to live without Nordstroms too. Sedona is a great day-trip from Prescott and vice-versa. Come see us here!

We have antelope here and wild burros as well.

Your pictures are an inspiration. I will share mine soon.

Shari, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago.  At one time I was transferred to a small town in South Carolina.  All I say is you can take the girl out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the girl.  I was very happy when I was transferred to Atlanta.

Hi John - We get out to Prescott at least monthy. My husband misses Inn-N-Out!

Hi Kathy - Fortunately, we live close enough to Phoenix to get a taste of the suburban sprawl, now and again.  But I can honestly say that I don't miss the gridlock and travel time of the freeways.

Hi Wayne,

I appreciate every moment of what we have here.  Our wildlife makes it more special.
