In a time when state, federal, and local governments are on weight watcher budget review, looking for slack to reduce spending, Maine's Tourism Office has turned up the heat on its website.
www.visitmaine.com . The decision to inject a half million dollars to beef up the site design, functionality and maintenance to keep it lightning fast and user friendly. In fact Maine's Tourism Office budget is up a million dollars from last year's 7.5 million dollar level. Where did the money come from? In part, Maine's office that coordinates beating the drum for what a neat place "Vacationland" is for the world to know about, has decided to pull back the reins on print advertisements run nationally. Maine's tourism arm is using some of those print advertising promotional silver bullets to beef up its internet presence. If you have not landed at the site, do so and enjoy recent upgrades that include delicious images dripping with eye candy appeal, videos and no stone left unturned copy on what the weblogs show come out as most requested search terms.

Real estate brokers sell more than property, they promote and "sell" the area of Maine that people want to experience and discover. My son (a trombonist) spent some time in Bar Harbor playing a gig. He LOVED it, but almost hit a moose.
Love the motto "The way life should be." Maybe I'll rip it off..."The way real estate should be."
Rich...have some more pile..and try the lobster! Karen, moose from Maine make dangerous hood ornaments when you are driving.
Most of my fondest childhood memories are from the days I spent just outside Houlton, ME at my grandparents' farm in New Limerick. I moved away from Maine 22 years ago, but go back every year to visit. I'm now in Gig Harbor, WA which is actually a lot like Maine - but we don't get much snow here at sea level. The Mt. Rainier area gets plenty though, which is great for us skiers who don't like to shovel!
Some things that I miss from Maine: "real" blueberries, fluffernutters, Necco wafers, Hoodsie cups, fireflies, and fiddleheads. I actually never thought I'd miss fiddleheads....
If you've never been to Maine, you should plan a trip. It truly is The Way Life Should Be - all but the shoveling.
There is an outfit in Lewiston Maine that canned fiddleheads...I liked picking them, along the rivers in Maine more than eating them but with a little vinegar, part of spring in Maine. Now Maine clams, that is a different story, a real addiction of mine.
