Driving past Downtown Buffalo on the I190 today, I saw two more cranes located in front of the First Niagara Center. The Canal side Development is on! This is quite an undertaking, since any development in Downtown Buffalo was slow to come by about 5 years ago. Since 2008, the Av-ant Building, Robert H. Jackson Federal Courthouse, Pierce Arrow Museum, and now the Canal side Project, and Harbor center Projects. This is by far the most economic developmental undertaking that this city has ever seen, with a price tag of over 200 Million Dollars. When it is complete the plan includes the erection of a Marriott Hotel with over 200 rooms, 2 NHL sized Hockey Rinks, Retail Shopping area, and a 23 Million Dollar State Funded reconstruction of the Historic Canals on the Former site of The Aud. The Canal side Area and Naval Park have become one of Downtown Buffalo's hottest places to be. The Beautiful views of Lake Erie have always been sort of our little secret, as well as Buffalo's best chance at getting back to being a viable municipality. It is good to see our elected leaders and some large corporation taking a serious stance at turning the cities future around. It is a massive undertaking, however it's awesome to see Buffalo Building again.
