Camping close to San Diego?
Try Santee Lakes this summer
Padre Dam’s Santee Lakes just keeps getting better, with the addition of lakefront floating cabins for those campers who don’t have an RV or a tent. With 7 peaceful lakes, there is plenty to do and see. Or-- you can just relax!
1. A 1300 square foot interactive water playground --they call it a Sprayground and it’s filled with buckets of splashing, spraying, spouting water-- makes you wish you were 13 or under again!
2. If you love to bike, just follow the paved walkway all around the lakes.
3. There are plenty of boats for rent: pedal boats (two and four seaters), canoes, rowboats and kayaks. Santee Lakes boat rentals
4. Great fishing! The seven lakes are seasonally stocked with Catfish and Rainbow Trout; Bass and Bluegill are also available. Lakes 1-5 are for day use fishing, and lakes 6-7 are for registered campers. Santee Lakes fishing
5. This is the place for playgrounds, picnics and parties. There’s an island, an amphitheater and a lakeside gazebo—all are terrific locations for special events. Choose from several locations sprinkled throughout the 190 acre park, with capacities up to 1000 people. The staff at Santee Lakes is helpful and friendly.
6. If you do have an RV, there are 300 full hookup sites available-- Santee Lakes camping. There’s a clubhouse that is perfect for groups, and a nice laundry area too; both of these are located close to the pool.
7. If you’d like to store your RV or off road vehicle, there are 4 acres with 14,000 solar panels covering the storage area.
